EMH IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS PREDICTIONS…WHICH SUCKED THIS WEEKEND!
That’s it. I’ve had it. This weekend I am just going to predict The Hangover to make 42 million.

Once again, I have underestimated this movie. What it is doing is gone from remarkable to incredible. It’s week three take was only down 18.4% from its week two take. Also, it had two new major studio releases in which to contend with. Good luck finding a bigger surprise hit this year.
Here is the top five for the weekend:
1. The Proposal 33.6 million
2. The Hangover 26.8 million
3. Up 23.5 million
4. Year One 19.6 million
5. Pelham 1-2-3 12.0 million
My top five predictions looked like this:
5. The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 12.1 million
4. The Hangover 19.9 million
3. Up 20.4 million
2. The Proposal 22.0 million
1. Year One 23.6 million
Now, my order sucked. Plus, I was way off on Hangover (again) and Proposal. However, my other picks weren’t so bad. Okay, more accountability…
I WAS WRONG
The Hangover has now made almost 120 million more than its 35 million dollar budget. Congrats, boys. I really need to see that movie.
I WAS WRONG
The Proposal really got me. 33.6 million!?! WOW! I look like an idiot on that one.

I WAS RIGHT
I was only 100,000 off on Pelham. I am a genius.
I WAS WRONG
4 million off on Year One is not that bad. BUT I picked it at number one, and it only came in at number four. UGH!
I WAS RIGHT
Also, only 3.1 million off on Up is not too bad. And I did have that at number three. So I got that one going for me.
Okay, I’ll make you a deal. I’ll either get this week’s predictions out by tomorrow (because of Transformers) or I promise not to see a single tracking number or box office take for any of the movies this weekend before I make my predictions. I am going to go out on a limb this weekend. TRANSFORMERS WILL MAKE MORE THAN THE HANGOVER. There, I said it. There’s no turning back now.
So I looked pretty stupid this weekend. Go ahead. I deserve it! Let me hear how bad I was. Even Nobby can put me down.
Thanks for reading,
EMH

Hey – I sucked just as bad. You did better at Pelham than I did, and even though I predicted another close race between Hangover and Up, my figures were all wrong.
So I'll spare you a scathing 'nya nya na na nya' – but bear in mind that I won't be fooled by your 'hints' any more – LOL.
Looks like people were really starving for the romantic comedy after the testosterone-fest we've seen this season. My order was off but the number$ were close on 3 of the 5. I think you are right that Transformers 2 might scrape by The Hangover this week, regardless of early reviews.
Don't feel too bad EMH! I thought Year One would do much better as well. Though I have been betting on The Hangover for some time… glad to see you're finally getting on board. But here's a rant I must share with you.
Me and fellow tyrant Mr Black went to the midnight showing of Year One. I had ultra high hopes for this film. But when we got our tix, we asked how much of the theater had been sold… "3%" the pimple faced kid behind the window said. Aaah that's cruel, I mean to say, that kid with all the acne. Hmmm, still sounds wrong.
3%??? It was already 7 o' clock… in the Tylenol pm mind you! If 3% had a letter grade other than F, it would be F.#.C.K.E.D. As in 'you are…'
That was clue number one that the movie wasn't gonna do so well. Number two, is code word for taking a crap. But thirdly, when we came to sit in the theater around 11:00, only 20 or so people were there. Still? No one? But to my surprise, by the time it hit 12:01 about 70% of the theater was full. Not bad for the first showing of a comedy. And the crowd was mostly made up of cute chicks. Apparently Micheal Cera is a total babe magnet!
But alas, the movie just didn't meet expectations. I'm a HUGE fan of both Cera and Black, but the comedy seemed like the same one two punch over and over again. Black says something loud and crazy… Cera mutters under his breath. Black loud, Cera quiet. Me Tarzan, you Jane. How did a movie made by 3 comedic geniuses fall so short? There were only a handful of scenes in the movie that got a crowd reaction. And as we were leaving the theater, I knew it was doomed.
Word of mouth can make a movie or kill it. Hangover has benefited from it. And Year One was killed by it. The Proposal did well, but I doubt it will have the staying power of Hangover… but hey, I could be wrong.
will you marry me?
