THIS WEEKEND’S BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS 6/19/09. HINT: YEAR ONE WILL WIN
Okay, this is going to be tough. I think we are about to see one the closest top fives of my lifetime. First, we have Jack Black and Michael Cera, who are popular with teenagers. Next, we have Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in a romantic comedy, the first major release for that genre in almost two months (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past). So the ladies will have something geared more towards them after an onslaught of high-powered action and big-time comedies that play to a mostly male demographic. Also, there is a Pixar film still in the mix, which draws the whole family. Predictions should be all over the place for this weekend. Here are mine…

5. The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 12.1 million
4. The Hangover 19.9 million
3. Up 20.4 million
2. The Proposal 22.0 million
1. Year One 23.6 million
Okay, I know I said I would not underestimate The Hangover again. I almost said that it would make 30 million this weekend just to be certain. However, after making 32 million in its second weekend, 20 million would only be a 30% drop for this weekend. That is a solid, solid week three take. How can I expect it to totally destroy Year One, which will get some of its money just because it’s a new comedy geared towards a youthful audience? Also, The Proposal will take a few of its dollars because the ladies will drag their boyfriends to see Sandra Bullock with them. And Up is going to keep doing well because it has no real family movie to compete with until Ice Age comes out July 1. That being said, there are some sneak previews of Ice Age going on this weekend. Perhaps I should adjust my Up prediction. Nah, Ice Age is only playing on 330 screens. I will stick with what I have.
Now, I expect to see some great predictions out of you all. Let’s get to it.
See you next week for the accountability report.
Sincerely,
EMH

Mine's pretty much the same with a couple of exceptions. I think you are right, though. It will be close this weekend.
1. Year One 23.1 mil
2. The Hangover 19.8 mil
3. The Proposal 19 mil
4. Up 18.7 mil
5. Pelham 1 2 3 14.6 mil
There you go. Too close to call. Let's see what happens!
i say proposal overtakes year one, ryan reynolds appeals to guys and girls. im also guessing that year one will be a huge dissapointment
I agree, Year One is getting horrible reviews. I think The purposal will take #1 and then, Year One, Hangover, Up, and Pelham.
I'm going against reasonable logic here as my previous attempts have sucked – damn you, movie going audiences.
1. Year 1 – 32.4M
2. The Proposal 27.9M
3. The Hangover – 17.6M
4. Up – 17.4M
5. The Taking of Pelham 123 – 12.6
I think Year One will take number 1 this weekend with about 25.4 mil I understand its getting bad reviews but the general movie going audience don't see the reviews they see a Jack Black movie.
The Hangover will hang in there at number 2 with about 20 Mil
I am going to keep UP in at number 3 with 19.3 Mil
The Proposal will come in at 4 with 18.7 Mil
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 will come out at 5 with a 14 Mil
EMH? REALLY? hangover at 4th? i dunno. thats bold my friend. you have no faith ! this movie is still riding the wave of awesome!
ok hopefully i do better this time
1st we got Year One (which even my non-review reading friends say sucked) with 27.5
2nd the hangover (yes thats right!) with 21.3 mil
3rd we gots the proposal (the females will be out in full force toting their boyfriends to this one) with 29.1
then UP staying strong with 16.7
and finally this is my wild card the taking of pelham with 13.5
I think the proposal will take year one.
1- Proposal- 28 mil
2- Year One- 24 mil
3-Up- 20
4-Hangover- 18
5-Pelham- 15
