They've walked the fine line pretty well so far. If they can continue to keep the balance, canon and new, they'll be fine. I just wish they'd been around to stop Berman and Pillar before they almost ruined everything.

ahaha I agree with Tristan…better villain–Nero was amusing but we need someone with a more evil rather than scorned attitude. A new story line is the obvious way to go especially with the alternate timeline established in the first movie. Its too bad they cou'dnt cross over with other sci-fi shows….I would love to seethe new Kirk and Spock meet the tenth Doctor

New story. Of course it can still make referene to the established canon at times, but it should be something original that the characters have never experienced before.

And, uh… make the villain better this time. (*cough*)

Definitely new, if this is an alternative timeline then create new canon, new stories, new ideas that will make this story so much stronger!!

Definately a new story. Keep some ties to the orignal, but this next film should really strike out on its own — that would give a chance to be much more special. God, I'm so excited!!!
