I agree, I can’t find any good explanation to do a remake of this movie, the culture differences are what make this film more interesting, and those kids did a very good job.

Can Hollywood not come out with something original?!? To me it's almost like a slap in the face to the makers of Let the Right One In. "We're gonna remake your movie because we think we can make it better." Yeah, good luck with that…

I totally agree with you. It would be an insult to remake this movie especially americanized. The characters Eli and Oskar will probably end up as toys in happy meals at mcdonalds. This movie is a masterpiece. Don't ruin it. I felt so torn with Eli. She is a vampire and kills for blood on one hand but on the other hand she does good and helps Oskar. And I felt so bad that she, a 12 year old couldn't do anything about her curse. I live in America and I know what they can do to ruin a good movie. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel though, what happens to Oskar and Eli after the train ride??? To american movie makers that think they can do better??? Leave well enough alone!!!!!

Wow, I totally love the passion, but in truth beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because a vast majority of Americans would probably prefer an americanized version (go figure) doesn't mean they're stupid or that it's any less of a good film.

Spoorloos (one of the greatest horror films of all time) became the insipid and chicken-shit 'The Vanishing'.
REC (one of the most disturbingly brilliant films ever) became the soft-stooled 'Quarantine'.
Oldboy – christ it's getting remade with Will Smith in the lead.
Now this (amongst other great foreign films) is about to get a celluloid fisting.
No disrespect to the first poster – but they sum up the reason why these films get remade – we're too f**king lazy to read a decent film.
Makes me sick.

Word. Foreign films are usually the best ones out there, because unlike America, they're willing to think outside of boxes to come up with something new.

And for the record, The Departed is a remake of Infernal Affairs (a Hong Kong film).

subtitles don't suck ass. there is NO reason to remake this film. it was incredible and the fact that it wasn't in english added to it.

The Departed is a remake of a Chinese or Japanese movie(I cant rememberr which) that was only 2 or 3 years old at he time. As long as it is done well and is a good movie why not. Besides Subtitles suck ass and the can be destracting and dubbing is really fucking annoying.
