Brian S Movie Review: DEAD SNOW

deadsnow2

I was lucky enough the other day to see this little Norwegian gem directed and co-written by Tommy Wirkola, subtitles and all.

The film follows 7 med students on school break in the mountains in Norway, yes Norway people! After playing in the snow and fun gamed in the cabin we begin to see this blur picking off a student here and there, all in weird situations. This is where Tommy Wirkola’s imagination comes into play putting these people in these “places” at the wrong times.

As the “blur” slows down we see it’s “freakin” Nazi zombies awaken from their cold slumber! People, I’m not just talking one or two zombies, we have a lot of them here! And they have their own “killer” soundtrack to go along with their march of death!

Very gory, creative and imaginative zombie-fied slaughter-fests go on throughout this surprisingly great zombie flick. Awesome make-up FX here people! Great job! We have it all here, action, horror, gore, nudity, Nazi’s and snow oh yeah, the majority of the film happens in daylight! You don’t see that too much in a zombie film! I know a few directors out there that can take a lesson or two from Mr. Wirkola!

This is an instant classic! I never would have thought that a Norwegian horror film would become one of my favorites! It is!

Saw the movie last week at the Montreal Fantasia Film Festival. It was great. The make-up top notch and the gore just perfect.

A definite must see. And if you can, go see it in Norwegian with subs.

I saw this at Sundance in Jan. Mind blowingly good. This film and "Let the Right One In" make me proud to call myself a scandinavian.
