CAPTAIN AMERICA Movie Production Details

Captain America is a character I can’t wait to see come to the big screen. I know there have been movies made before, but nothing like what is in store for Marvels new film, which is set to come out in 2011. I am so happy with who they have brought in to direct The First Avenger: Capain America, Joe Johnston is the man that will direct the film, he directed a little movie called October Sky which is one of my all time favorite films, he also recently directed the new Wolfman movie for Universal.
Marvel president Kevin Feige recently talked about the film and gives a breakdown of what there plans are for Captain America. And here you are:
- Feige acknowledged that “Captain America” might have difficulty playing overseas, which is one of the reasons for the title “The First Avenger: Captain America”. In other countries, it might be marketed as simply “The First Avenger.”
Well, that makes sense, but if you do reside out side of the United States would you still see the movie with Captain America in the title? I’m just curious if you would rather not see that in the title. Personally “The First Avenger” sounds kinda flat.
- The Cap story will be very realistic, about a scrawny kid who wants to prove himself, set during WWII.
I love that they are using this setting for the film.
- “Captain America” will be Marvel’s most internationally-located movie, as the character will be traveling all over the world.
Except when he is sent to war in WWII, right?
- Marvel is more likely to get a name actor to play Captain America, because of the need for it to play well overseas. It seems doubtful that they’ll repeat the “Thor” move of going with a relative unknown.
I really wish they would.
- Feige said that the actor who plays Cap will be American. No Australians, Brits, etc.
- By the time his own films and the “Avengers” movies are over, Captain America could appear in as many as six movies.
How awesome is that! See, you have to get a relatively unknown actor that would agree to sign a contract to take the time to appear in that many films.
- Since he needs a big, international name, Feige refused to eliminate one of the biggest stars in the world, Will Smith. He referred to Smith as being among the handful of international stars they’d consider.
Now I just don’t see Will Smith as Captain America! That would kill the movie for me, and any excitement for it what-so-ever. I think Smith is a fine actor but definitely not Captain America material, and no it’s not because he’s black.
- Although Smith is in the running, Feige shot down rumors that they’d be using the “Truth” storyline in the film. Although he said he enjoyed the comic, it wouldn’t make for an appropriate cinematic launch for the character.
- Marvel is definitely looking to get into the 3D realm soon. Feige recently saw “Up,” loved it, and said that he’d be watching James Cameron’s “Avatar” closely. Although “Iron Man II” will not be 3D, it is a possibility for “Captain America.”
As long as they don’t turn it into a gimmick. Which I guess it kind of already is. I just don’t want them to through stuff in the audiences faces to let you know it’s in 3-D.
- Pre-production officially begins in October, with plans to start filming on June 28th, 2010.
- Casting is expected to begin this summer.
- Joe Johnston and the writers are working on the script now.
- It will likely be a “save the world”-type story.
- Feige said that some of the unselected “Thor” actors may be candidates for the “Captain America” movie.
I guess the next big thing, is to see who they decide should play Captain America. Who would you like to see play Captain America?

Without putting any thought in to it at all, would Bradley Cooper make a good Captain America?
bruce willis comes to mind but he may be a little too old for the part. A younger actor like bradley cooper seems like a good pick
I still want Nathan Fillion but as he's Canadian, obviously not. And as they're not going for unknowns, Ryan McPartlin's out of the question too. Bradley Cooper's the only other name being banded around that I can see working now. But is he a big enough name?
Ice-T would be awesome.
Brad Pitt would be excellent, to be honest. He's a legit good actor whose never really gone after the action payday.
Tim Olyphant is probably not a big enough name, but I think he could do it.
Maybe Michael Cera can film the kid scenes now and work on buffing up for the next 18 months? /jk
It's a tough call. Some actors that would be good are getting too old… Gary Sinise or, hell, even Tom Hanks before the DaVinci defilement.
What about Viggo Mortensen?
Channing Tatum would be good, I love Bradley Cooper though
I agree that they should go with a no-name. Get a big name guy to play the villain.
This should be your Cap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9z8kF3jwFY
I agree they should get a no name guy to play Captain America. They can land a big name for the villain role. I just think come time for the Avengers movie, it's too much of a screen time issue when you've got Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johannsen, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel Jackson, possibly Ed Norton, Chris Hemsworth and then another name guy. Give it to a relatively unknown.
I say Shon Lange. You can find his Captain America reel on YouTube if you search "Shon Lange."
I agree with Viggo Mortensen. He's the only one I can think of at the moment that has the look , the acting chops, the action experience, the name, and can embody that stoic heroic leader that Steve Rogers is.
I would go with Brad Pitt, although I am thinking the Basterds movie may keep him out of the running, but he has the presence and the acting chops to pull off this role. Plus they could get Finchers Ben Button fx team to do the scrawny pitt…heh.
IF IT LOOKS LIKE ANYTHING LIKE THAT PIC ILL PASS THAT PIC AND THAT STORY SOUNDS LIKE MORE MARVEL JUNK ILL STICK TO DC MARVELS FOR TARDS AND LIL KIDS WITH NO PARENTS
Cool grammar, dude.
Well, seeing as how Rogers was in his early 20's (if that) when he volunteered for the SSS, and this will be an origin movie, Pitt, Viggo, et al are definitely out. Add in the possibility of many more movies to come, and that pretty much guarantees a younger actor. Plus, most of those guys above look NOTHING like Cap.
That said, I don't have any great suggestions myself. I'm all for an unknown, but if I had to choose someone, I'd probably say Chris Pratt. I know, he's not super young, but can still pull off early to mid twenties.
I'd have to go with Matt Damon or Mark Wahlberg. Both have action movie experience and both can pull off looking a few years younger than they actually are.
I still say Jensen Ackles.
Matt Damon works for me. All the other names are simply too old to play the part. Will Smith would be awful. He's the ONLY actor they could announce that would make me NOT see the film.
I know he is a wrestler, but I still say he is PERFECT for the part, I believe John Cena could pull it off nicely. He's got the roid junkie muscles, he's got the big jaw/chin, he's got the hight and hair. He wasn't that bad in The Marine.
really, they should also look for actors that aren't american as well, because Christopher Egan, from the cancelled TV show Kings would work perfectly.
Alan Ritchson. All-American, tall, strong facial features, built well. if you don't know who he is, he played Arthur Curry (Aquaman) on Smallville. That would be my first choice. otherwise Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) or Justin Hartley (Green Arrow on Smallville). Both American, I just think they may be a little too pretty for the part.
Im sure they will find someone good to play the Captain. They better not fuck up. Red Skull BETTER be the villain and he beter be good.
My big concern about Captain America is what should his voice sound like? The only info from the comics is he's 6'2'', blond hair, blue eyes, 220 lbs, and from New York, NY. We've all listed a lot of actors and denied a fair share of them, but what are we all thinking he should sound like?
I like the suggestion of Justin Hartley. I think he fits that role perfectly. Among established superstars, I think Matt Damon is a good call. Initially I liked the idea of Wahlberg, but I think he carries too much of an edge with him to be Captain America.
What does everyone think of David Boreanaz?
I'll throw my hat in for Matt Damon. The Bourne movies kickass and he already pulled off the WWII soldier bit in 'Saving Private Ryan' as well as the high-profile cast in the Ocean's movies…
I have read all the comments that have been posted. And to be honest I think some people that were mentioned would be great potential actors for the Cap, while other names would not be great for it. I agree that we need a new young actor, that said, Alan Ritchson or Chris Pratt. Although they would both have to buff up for the role. Some of the people who would not be suitable, Matt Damon, Viggo, and defintly not Will Smith. Dont get me wrong or nothing, these guys are seriously great actors, but to invent the Cap on the big screen we need some one who is close to the comic. Matt Damon is not what comes to mind when you think of the Cap, Viggo is too old for the part especially if the Cap is to be in several other movies after this, and Will Smith well quite frankly he is black, and well the Cap is white with blond hair and blue eyes.
I also agree that the villian should be the more reknown actor or even the supporting cast. This would better highlight the actor playing the Cap to give it a more authetic feel since this is going to be take place in WWII.
Im gonna blow your mind. Ready? Brock Lessner. They'll need a scrawny kid to go into Project Super Soldier, then Brock to emerge from it. Maybe they can CGI Brock into scrawniness for the first part, I dunno. Now he doesnt have quite the personality for it, thats what youre saying. Wrong. When he wants to Lessnar can come off a really nice guy. Get him a good acting coach and he's off to he races.
Shon is exactly who they should get to be Captain America. Shon Lange has the look and the background for the part!
There are alot of good actors named by everybody to play Captain America, but really only two guys in my opinion can make the role believeable: Casper Van Diem or Steve Burton. Marvel would be dumd to not seriously look at these guys.
I think chris pine should be the cap after he didnt land the green lantern i think this is a perfect comic book role for him
O wow.. Just watched Shon Lange's Video… HOW can you find anyone better than him for the role???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9z8kF3jwFY
matt damon or channing tatum not will smith as in the world wars there was no black not being racised but there wasnt
Sam Worthington should be Captain America…I stand behind this resolve…
The first time I saw body builder Jeramy Freeman around three years ago, I thought, "Hey, this guy would be great to play Captain America if they ever make a new one." I don't know what his acting skills would be like, but he sure would have the build and the looks that you would see in the comic pages. As in the case of the Superman movies with Christopher Reeves, and with the recent Superman Returns, they used unknown names so that a famous name wouldn't get in the way of "selling" such an iconic figure. Perhaps Jeramy Freeman, or some other unknown, would be best suited to play such a great character as Captain America.
Dreaming: I picture the beginning of the movie starting in the present time. Search team in the Antarctic (funded by a billionaire) succesfuly finding the captain. They only show a blur image of a man dressed in red/blue trapped in ice. The billionaire says "I knew it!!!". Then the movie flash backs to WWII. End of Dream LOL
the guy will play captain america is john cena i will see john cena as captain america i really like john cena as captain america i will see john cena on the first avengre captain america and the avengres i really like john cena as captain america on the first avengre captain america and the avengres
I believe that no matter what they say publicly, that Marvel would desperately love to get an A-lister such as Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio to play such a character insyead of an unknown – if they could get them to sign for follow up movies, of course.
your so retarded.
dc is only good for batman and superman, and superman hardly counts.
marvel is the way to go.
I have my vote in for Jake Gyllenhaal… a big enough name and with a lot of experience. I have to admit that I didn't like him at first but this guy has turned into one hell of an actor… from Donnie Darko to Jarhead to, and dare I say it… brokeback mountain? LOL.
I would NOT like to see Shia LaBeof… he's too much of a bumbling whining hero in transformers- ruined it for me.
