EXCALIBUR Film Being Written by Warren Ellis

excalibur_ver2

While up at Comic-Con writer Warren Ellis was mostly talking about the Marvel Anime stuff he is currently working on with Marvel. Now it looks like he is taking on a bigger project, a movie project. I guess he was allowed to talk about it up at Comic-Con but it never came up while talking about the Marvel project so he has announced his new film project through his blog in which he say’s:

I’m writing a film treatment for Hollywood Gang, who co-produced Frank Miller’s 300. Hollywood Gang have previously optioned my graphic novel (with Chris Sprouse) OCEAN.

On my desk, the treatment is called Untitled Arthurian Project.

On their desk, the project is called EXCALIBUR.

I’m working directly with Gianni Nunnari, Oliver Kramer and Craig Flores (whom I was delighted to bump into on the Warner’s lot the other day) and having a great time.

He says he’s been sitting on that little bit of information for months now. Well, now that it’s all out in the open, sounds pretty cool to me! Warren Ellis also most recent developed that insanley incredible G.I. Joe: Resoulte animated web series. The guy has done some great stuff, so I am really looking forward to see what he can do with a film project based on the legend of King Aurthur. Now I am not sure if this is a remake of the 1981 film or not, but Ellis links the Wikipedia page to it through his blog so maybe it is? What do you all think?

    NO!! Please NO!!

1981's EXCALIBUR is darn near perfect. It's held up well over the years. It's also got the best portrayal of Merlin *ever*, by Nicol Williamson.

    'Nuff with the remakes!!

this i could stand for a remake. i was in awesome awe as a kid when i saw this movie. i recently rented it and was amazed at how much the acting was really atrocious and the dialogue horrendous. it was as if excalibur was making fun of monty python and the holy grail. or maybe monty foretold the future ala merlin, made the movie knowing excalibur would come out a few years later. even the sword fighting was dismal.

I too welcome a remake of this. It was a memorable film for me when I fist saw it a few years back but with better casting and special effects as well as an updated more gritty script, this should be a quite enjoyable film.
