As Peter Jackson hosted the District 9 panel he started by quelling all the rumors on the upcoming Hobbit films. First off he mentioned that the scripts for the films haven’t been finished. Also, that all casting rumors concerning Bilbo Baggins are just that…. rumors. According to Mr. Jackson the films themselves haven’t even been properly green lit yet. But, I think its safe to say that once they finish the script the studio will move quickly to get the film made.

Guillermo Del Toro is apparently still in to direct the films but will probably film something else for the time being. Peter Jackson also hinted that he might direct a low budget horror movie while The Hobbit is being helmed by Del Toro.

So, all of this comes straight from the mouth of Peter jackson himself. We probably wont get any solid news  on what is going on in Middle-Earth for at least another 2 months. But, who knows. I am sure more rumors will surface before then.
