JIN ROH Anime to be Adapted to Live Action

killzone_jinroh

A live action version of the acclaimed anime JIN ROH is being adapted for the screen. Anime News Network reports that:

Production I.G Vice-President, Maki Terashima-Furuta, acknowledged at her company’s Anime Expo panel on Sunday that “somebody has the live-action rights, and somebody was planning to make a live-action Jin-Roh, but at the moment, I have no comment.”

JIN ROH is about Kazuki Fuse. A police officer who works for the special anti-riot/anti-terrorism unit known as Jin Roh (Human Wolves). After hesitating to kill a young suicide bomber, known as Little Red Riding Hood, Fuse is suspended from his duties. He then begins to gather information about the young girl. As he does, he befriends her sister. The two then get caught in a rivalry between his Jin Roh unit and the police administrators. The story is set in the backdrop of an alternate Japan during the 1950s.

You can see a trailer for the original anime below:

I liked JIN ROH. I thought it was a very well done anime. I am just a bit skeptical at the translation to live-action. I cannot recall seeing a live action adaptation of an anime that I have liked. But I have high hopes for this. No word yet on who owns the rights or on who is helming the project.

Do you think Jin Roh would work in live action?
And did you ever notice the similarities between the Jin Roh unit and the Helghast from KILLZONE? weird…isnt it?

I'm sure this would get all the critical acclaim, but I don't think it would bring in the big bucks.

If the right people get involved (a good director, DOP, writer and design team are crucial), then it should translate very well to live-action. The original is anime, yes, but it's not escapist in the way that it would require dopey-looking costumes, makeup or special effects. Hopeful on this one.

it doesn't surprise me at all, the western comics/cartoons are already being milked day after day it was just a matter of time till hollywood would go for adaptions from manga and animes
i don't know for jin roh cause it's even between animes a very special movie, if it's gonna be made by an hollywood studio(wich i don't hope) i'm pretty sure the story will be remade to be more america friendly :P , a japanese studio would make it even worse cause they don't even try to experiment, it would be a direct copy from the anime(i'm pretty sure they would even use the same camera angles^^)

but i there was even a manga to adaptation that surprised me "Old Boy", it was even better and tragic than the manga, so it's possible that it could come out good like JulianRubbish said, if the right people get involved….(but it won't happen^^)
