Ridley Scott Will Be Directing ALIEN Prequel Film!

We have talked about this Alien prequel a few times already and the last thing we heard was that commercial director Carl Rinsch was attached to direct, then it came out that Fox had no interest in green lighting the project unless Ridley Scott stepped in to direct it, now today we have word the yes indeed, Ridley Scott has returned to direct this new Alien Prequel! So how freakin fantastic is that! Of course if there was going to be another Alien film made wouldn’t it just be the ideal dream to have the guy that started it all come back to direct? Hell yeah it is! And the best part is the dream came true!

There have been 3 other Alien films made since Ridley’s first Alien hit theaters in 1979. This new film takes place before the event’s of the first film in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

Maybe Ridley found a great story to tell here and is really excited to take on the project himself, or maybe fox drove a dump truck full off money up to his house, or maybe they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Whatever the reason is, I’m glad he’s attached to direct another Alien film. This is going to end up being a great Alien film… finally we will get another good one!

What do you think?

So exciting! I love Ridley Scott.

I am so desperate to love this film! If Scott creates something half as good as his original, it will not the AVP and third and fourth instalments into a cocked het!

Well, as a prequel we know they're all going to die or Ripley's group would've never got sent out. I do hope they use an all new crew, and don't try to tie old characters in to this with the exception maybe of Bishop.
I want less based on special effects and more based the sheer terror and suspense of the story.
    CGI – stay home!

    AGREED!

They could have a survivor who gets to Earth with nobody believing him/her. The Company can get wind of it which is why Mother wakes them and Ash makes his decisions. They imply that Ash knew what was going on the entire time.

I think a prequel would have to be about the "Space Jockey" character. In the bonus materials of the special edition Alien DVD, Ridley Scott expresses the opinion that a film exploring the backstory of the Space Jockey would be an interesting direction for the series to take.

Scorched earth or close to it would be ok by me. Dirty, gritty and primitive as the mining colony should be. (It was a mining colony they lost contact with, right?)
No survivors, just the info that goes back home for later movies.
No new aliens, there are enough out there to deal with from all the other movies.
Just a mind f*ck that makes you spill your drink when the first one jumps out at you.
    Like the first one
    Like Pitch Black
I'm probably asking for way too much!

I like the original alien, but I f***ing love me some colonial marines, power loaders, auto-turrets, Drop ships, apcs, pulse rifles, smart guns, positronic electronic ballbreakers. You know the ultimate bad ass. Come on were talking some of the most influential set pieces in sci-fi history, how many movies and video games after aliens had similar armor, guns, or tech?

I doubt they got hold off Scott, to make a "James Cameron" edit…at least I bl**dy hope not!?! not that I don't like Aliens/Cameron, but if you want a "ball busting colonial fire fest", why look any further than Cameron himself?

I'm really hoping for a return to the original, (Alien) and brings back the edgy/gritty character driven type of story telling, that made Alien such a wonderful classic piece of cinematic history, Ridley Scott is a fantastic storyteller, so I'm hoping for another master class from "the guru".

    should be cool

Wow. I can't beleive this has happened. And I don't mean that in an overexcited fan sort of way. (actually that too) I think Ridley Scott is a wonderful director and I remember hearing years ago that someone posed Ridley the question if he would ever do another Alien movie. His response (the story goes) was a not-so-enthused "If I was going to, it would have to be a prequal." It was speculated that his reasoning for this was that he was so irritated that the studio didn't ask him to do the sequals. Also, he didn't like the direction that the Alien story was taken thereafter. …specifically the whole idea that the species has a queen. He wanted the species to be more parasitic rather than a species that give birth to itself. He liked the necessity of a host to propegate the species.
Anyway, I heard about his views on doing another Alien years ago and reluctantly gave up on the idea of Ridley Scott getting his hands back on his Alien baby. I'm happily shocked to see it becoming reality!
