STAR WARS Live Action TV Show To Shoot in Australia

George Lucas’ long awaited live-action Star Wars TV show is back in the news and it is still trucking forward. The last we heard we reported that the power at be were holding auditions to cast it. That was back in March. Now word has hit the street via SCI FI AU that pre-production has started, and that the show will be shooting in Australia. The report:
The quality and style of writing that will be used will be of the highest quality, and local, and writers will be sourced from outside traditional Science Fiction shows. Several big names within the Australian industry (including writers from the Award-winning Love My Way and the Award-winning Secret Life of Us) have been approached by Star Wars uber-producer, Rick McCallum.
I’ve never seen these shows, but they are spoken of very highly.
I’m so excited to hear that this series is gaining some momentum. According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between “Revenge of the Sith” (Episode III) and the original “Star Wars” (Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. There will be Stormtroopers, but no Jedi or Darth Vader will appear on screen. As he did with the “Clone Wars” series, Lucas will write and shoot an entire year’s worth of episodes before looking for a cable channel on which to air the series. Because he can do that. Lucas has also described it as “Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space” and that it will be darker, grittier, and more character based. I have also heard that there will be several cameos from other major Star Wars characters.
Since this is still in the early stages and Lucas wants to shoot an entire years worth of episodes before he airs them we have quite a long ass way to go. Regardless of how long it takes are you happy that this is actually going happen?

Yes, I am very happy about this!
And that he's using two of my all-time favorite TV series to describe this is very, very cool. Deadwood and Sopranos are really some of the best shows ever. Maybe Lucas should pitch his series to HBO!
ARGH, somehow I'm slightly skeptical, but don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and of what I saw in Clone Wars, I was quite impressed.
The only thing is, George Lucas has been milking this franchise dry and I'm just not ready to be happy about this. The fact he mentioned 2 of the best HBO shows just sounds like a way to generate hype; anyone can say it'll be like Deadwood or The Sopranos, but can they actually do it?
That is yet to be seen
Clone Wars found its legs after the first few episodes, hopefully this series can hit the ground running. Staying away from the major SW players may finally give the universe some of its epic scale back. The new trilogy made it seem like everyone grew up on the same block on Tatooine.
No jedi? Surely that can't be. A whole season and no jedi? Well that's a bummer, but that description sounds amazing. Deadwood meets Sopranos, in space!? Mighty ambitious. I'm thinking this'll air on Fox, who knows.
After Fox dropped the ball with the Terminator TV show and almost destroyed Dollhouse, I'd hope Lucas stays away. I don't know if any of the Big 4 networks will know how to market a sci-fi show for the long term. Although ABC/Disney will be looking for a big show to replace Lost after it finishes it's run next year, and this might timeout just right for them.
I'll bet big money that Cartoon Network will make a strong push for this now that they're greenlighting more live-action fare than animated. The Clone Wars cartoon gave them HUGE ratings in the demographic they want to own.
Sooo…Star Wars without lightsabres?
I trust George Lucas as a producer. As a writer and director, he really seems to have lost his touch. I wil give this a try, just as I 'tried' all three prequel films and tried to get into clone wars. The 2D episodes were cool, if rather shallow, and the 3D ones I could care less about.
Oddernod, you nailed what has driven me away from Star Wars. I would love to be drawn back in, so I'll give this show a shot once it gets here.
he used HBO shows as a comparison because that is primarily what he watches.
I´m more than happy. It´s a dream. And I can hardly wait.
