I trust George Lucas as a producer. As a writer and director, he really seems to have lost his touch. I wil give this a try, just as I 'tried' all three prequel films and tried to get into clone wars. The 2D episodes were cool, if rather shallow, and the 3D ones I could care less about.
Oddernod, you nailed what has driven me away from Star Wars. I would love to be drawn back in, so I'll give this show a shot once it gets here.

After Fox dropped the ball with the Terminator TV show and almost destroyed Dollhouse, I'd hope Lucas stays away. I don't know if any of the Big 4 networks will know how to market a sci-fi show for the long term. Although ABC/Disney will be looking for a big show to replace Lost after it finishes it's run next year, and this might timeout just right for them.

I'll bet big money that Cartoon Network will make a strong push for this now that they're greenlighting more live-action fare than animated. The Clone Wars cartoon gave them HUGE ratings in the demographic they want to own.

No jedi? Surely that can't be. A whole season and no jedi? Well that's a bummer, but that description sounds amazing. Deadwood meets Sopranos, in space!? Mighty ambitious. I'm thinking this'll air on Fox, who knows.

Clone Wars found its legs after the first few episodes, hopefully this series can hit the ground running. Staying away from the major SW players may finally give the universe some of its epic scale back. The new trilogy made it seem like everyone grew up on the same block on Tatooine.

ARGH, somehow I'm slightly skeptical, but don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and of what I saw in Clone Wars, I was quite impressed.
The only thing is, George Lucas has been milking this franchise dry and I'm just not ready to be happy about this. The fact he mentioned 2 of the best HBO shows just sounds like a way to generate hype; anyone can say it'll be like Deadwood or The Sopranos, but can they actually do it?

And that he's using two of my all-time favorite TV series to describe this is very, very cool. Deadwood and Sopranos are really some of the best shows ever. Maybe Lucas should pitch his series to HBO!
