Filming has begun for the 11th incarnation of The Doctor. Matt Smith has begun filming his adventures in The TARDIS in Cardiff, Wales. The26 year old actor is the successor of a great line of actors tat stretches all the way back to the early 1960’s.  Matt Smith has some big shoes to fill. David Tennant who played the tenth Doctor was my personal favorite.  But I started watching Doctor Who during Christopher Ecclesten’s time. I loved the show instantly and whe Ecclesten left i was nt sure how the new guy (Tennant) would be. After 5 minutes of watching I was sold. He got the character down. So I hope that lightning strikes twice and that Matt Smith will be amazing.  Like I said he has a long legacy to live up to.

The new companion for the 11th Doctor is  a young actress by the name of Karen Gillan who plays Amy Pond. This young Scottish lass has a legacy of herself to live up to. As long as Doctor Who has been on the air, the Doctor has had companions to accompany him. Usually a beautiful young woman. This new era of Doctor Who started with the uber famous British singer/actress Billie Piper playing Rose Tyler. Billie was then succeeded by Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones (my personal favorite), and of course super funny woman Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) was the last of Tennant’s fulltime companions. I personaly loved all 3 of those young ladies and they all brought a unique character and performance to the TARDIS.

I have high hopes for this new production. Doctor Who has always been some of the best writing and concepts in science fiction. I will be honest though I am completely unfamiliar with either Matt Smith nor Karen Gillian, but, either way I think it will work out.  New episodes wont be out until 2010 so we have a ways to wait for the reign of the 11th Time Lord.
