WB takes CAPTAIN BLOOD to the stars

Have you ever sat and watched the WB and wondered…. hmmmmmm I really wish they would make a show about a swashbuckling space pirate on this channel. Well my friend, your wish is coming true.
The big wigs over at the WB decided to make a sequel to themovie Captain Blood which starred Erroll Flyn and Basil Rathbone. After pitches from directors and writers came in they took a look at an animatic fromĀ Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers), which depicted an epic pirate battle in space. Now this my friends sounds pretty damn cool.
WB producer Bill Gerber had writer John Brownlow draft up a preliminary script for the project and after pitches came in Gerber said this about the Spierig’s cocept:
At first, I felt like I was in that scene in ‘The Player,’ where Buck Henry pitches the sequel to ‘The Graduate,’” said Gerber. “But when I took a look at their animatic depiction of a pirate battle in space, it had such a distinctive visual look to it that I said, ‘Great, I get it.
So even though there is a major change in time and setting, the project is supposed to stay true to the original story of a man named Peter Blood that joins a french pirate to rescue the woman he loves.
There are some things you don’t mess with, and that is as classic a movie storyline as you will ever find
This sounds like it could be really fun. I think these guys can do a good job. Especially after seeing what they are doing with Daybreakers. And honestly, there just isn’t enough space pirate movies these days. No word yet either if this is going to be live action or animated.
What do you think about this?
