THR reports Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has joined the cast for actor/director Ben Affleck’s crime thriller The Town.

An adaptation of the Chuck Hogan novel “Prince of Thieves,” the script for Town was worked on by Hogan, Affleck and Peter Craig. The story follows the relationship between a bank manager, to be payed by Hall, the career criminal (Affleck) who stole more than her heart and the dedicated FBI agent (Hamm) trying to bust the crook and his gang, of which Renner is a part.

Hall is the reason the criminal wants to clean up his act but also is the agent’s golden ticket to catching the man. Lively will be playing Renner’s sister and Affleck’s troubled ex-girlfriend. If he signs on, Cooper will play the role of Affleck’s father.

The Town begins shooting this September in Boston.

I loved Gone, Baby, Gone. But I think that Ben Affleck should change locations for his movies.

God, just when I was starting to dig Ben: I loved Gone, Baby, Gone too, he puts himself back in front of the camera… JUST BE THE DIRECTOR BEN. That's it.

I'd much prefer for Jon Hamm to play the career criminal. He can be suave and menacing, as seen on Mad Men. Ben can be neither.
