Disney to Make New Film on THE DIARY OF ANN FRANK

Disney has picked up the rights to develop a new film based on The Diary of Anne Frank, and they have brought in David Mamet to write and produce the feature film. Mament a Pulitzer Prize winner and has written several great films such as The Untouchables, Hoffa, Wag the Dog, Ronin, Hannibal, and Redbelt. The guy is more than qualified to take on a project like this. Variety reports:

The film will be an amalgamation of the famed diary; the stage adaptation by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich; and Mamet’s own original take on the material that could reframe the story as a young girl’s rite of passage. Frank, who died at 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, became an icon of the Holocaust after the post-war publication of the diary that she kept during the two years that her family hid in a secret attic apartment in Amsterdam.

There have been a few Anne Frank film and TV project made throughout the years, but this may end up being the definitive film version. With Disney behind it, you know they are going to go all out to bring this story to life.

I sure wish Disney would bring back the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh into a full length major motion picture!

I'm shocked Disney is going to take a step in that direction. The holocaust was really horrible. And I can't see them depicting WWII in a fashion that children can enjoy. Maybe they can get Hannah Montana to play Ann Frank. Or if they decide to go in the animated direction maybe a small talking mouse and an angry beaver will be the ones helping Ann hide from the Nazi's

Movies small kids can enjoy like Kill Bill volume 1+2 and Pirates of the Caribean 1-4. Disney isn't just making family only movies anymore.

This does not surprise me as Disney has been making movies other than the animated master pieces we've all grown up with since Who Framed Roger Rabbit via Touchstone Pictures which Disney owns. They also own Sony Pictures and also MGM ( I think. They could just be partnered with MGM). Owning these companies allows Disney to make more films that are outside of the typical " Little Mermaid" type they have cranked out for over Seventy years now. I look forward to this also because I think Disney will make an effort to exploit the heart and emotionality of the story.

I, NO, there are no words holy f*ck…does anybody remember how the guy who founded the company was A RAGING ANTI-SEMITIC??? Wow, ow, no, this is f*cking unbelievable, even if they are trying to go in another direction, it still hurts my motherf*cking soul…

There is no real proof that Disney was antisemitic or not. And even if he was antisemitic, what better way to redeem his ways than with a movie about Anne Frank?
