Domino Reviews: THE MARC PEASE EXPERIENCE Starring Schwartzman and Stiller

Who is Marc Pease? It’s the burning question that none of America is asking. This could be a result of zero marketing action; no commercials, no magazine or newspaper adverts, and features in a whopping 10 cinemas nationwide. Someone out there must be in-the-know. Someone must know what The Marc Pease Experience is all about.

I was reluctant to be the first to seek an answer. I did what every half-curious movie goer would do – I googled it. I searched for a trailer or any kind of clip from any part of the movie. Opening credits? Ending credits? Spoilers? Nothing. I did manage to stumble upon a few lines of the plot summary and one INCREDIBLY incredible (to its literal meaning) review:

“More or less, smiley face..

Director Todd Louiso and writer Jacob Koskoff put their heads together for a film about a man who couldn’t let go of his theatrical stardom in his high school years. 28-year-old Marc Pease, played by Jason Schwartzman, is dating a high school senior from New Ashby High – the same high school Pease took by storm 10 years prior with his mediocre acting and average singing. Opening night of his biggest break, Pease himself, breaks.

In attempt to regain the success his high school drama teacher, Jon Gribble (Ben Stiller) assured him, Pease finds himself at battle with his own ambitions and conquering the lingering feelings of false hope.

Sitting in the theater, before the movie could start, I turned to my friends and said “When you’re ready to leave, just let me know… because I’m totally fine with that… there’s a party going on that I kind of don’t want to miss.” Not two minutes later did the group of guys sitting behind us turn to each other and say “I’m ready to go when you guys are. Why aren’t we out… like drinking a beer or something? Just let me know when you guys want to leave.”

The willingness to enjoy cinema was equally thrilling from beginning to end — and the end was predictable; my company and the Cheers gang behind us stayed for the whole screening. Yet we all remained as empty as Google has to-date with a proper opinion or reason behind The Marc Pease Experience.
