Frank Darabont Brings THE WALKING DEAD to the Small Screen

Director Frank Darabont, who brought us films such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist, is now going to take on a different territory by invading the AMC network with a TV zombie drama series, based on the Image Comics graphic novel by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead. A deal is being set up where Darabont will write and direct the the series adaptation. Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion are also on board to produce.
Personally I think it will be awesome to see Darabont work with Zombies! I’ve heard they are incredibly hard to direct due to the fact that they are brain dead, but Darabont is a great director, and if anyone can do it, he can. I think we will also see some very good production value in this series, I just don’t think Darabont would get involved if it’s not going to look really good.
Like most zombie films, the story is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.
AMC’s Joel Stillerman says the project appealed to the station because there is great quality of storytelling, and that the series will stay faithful to the graphic novel.
This is not about zombies popping out of closets. This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in ‘Walking Dead’) is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way. We’ve got an audience that loves this kind of material.
I am definitely part of this audience! I love zombie films, I think Frank Darabont is a great director and I am really looking forward to this new Zombie series that will be developed for AMC. What do you all think?

YES!!! Finally, thank you AMC!
This is fantastic news. I've been following The Walking Dead since issue 1 and it is amazing. I actually just finished the newest issue (#64) and it has not missed a beat of awesomeness through all of these issues.
I series is definitely what this story needs. I hope they do it justice.

I really hope they stay true to the books. This is an amazing series and i've been waiting for this for a long time. I've wanted to see this come to life on screen so badly. I'm really glad they're making it a series. This will be awesome!

I have to say that this is one comic book adaptation that I am really looking forward to. I don't know about the rest of you, but Wolverine left a nasty taste in my mouth. I remember also being nervous that it would be a movie, because the story is still continuing, and Robert Kirkman is an amazing story teller (He also wrote the first 2 "Marvel Zombies," and writes "Invincible," both are just as good as "Walking Dead" in my book), and a movie would have to tie up everything at the end. I am really glad that they are making this a series. I was hoping that it would land on a little more adventurous station like HBO or Showtime, but after getting hooked on "Breaking Bad," I think that AMC can handle themselves quite nicely.
I REALLY hope that they do it in Black and White. I remember picking up the first trade, and getting a little sad that it wasn't in color, but after a while, you realize that is half the reason the the book is so good, it leaves a lot to the imagination.
Yessss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
