Rob Zombie will Reinvent THE BLOB – It won’t be a Red Blobby Thing

Good grief. I just don’t get it. I thought for sure he would move on back to make some original material after he was done with Halloween 2! I guess not, I guess he is still on the horror movie remake bandwagon that is headed for hell. Do we really need a remake of The Blob? No! But here is rob Zombie, prepping up to write, direct, and produce the remake of the 1958 horror classic which originally starred Steve McQueen.
Zombie made the deal with Dimension films who must have offered him an ass-load of money to do this. If you don’t remember the original film it is about an object from space that crashes into a field. The object contains a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it encounters and continues to grow bigger as it absorbs the humans.
Zombie has come up with a different way to bring The Blob to the big screen again but he wont really say what he has planned other than,
My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.
So like his version of Michael Meyers in no way represents the original vision of the character, his blob will in no way represent what made the blob, the blob in the first place. But he is reinventing it so does it matter? It will take the title of the original film and the sci-fi horror elements, but that’s about it. Zombie says:
I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.
Zombie has started writing the script, and production will start next spring with a budget of $30 million dollars. I am just sick of these remakes. But if you want to try and look at it in a positive light, Zombie may end up changing it so much it will in no way represent The Blob, so I guess you could argue that he is taking an original approach to the story. Right? You tell me.
Do you remember the 1988 remake of The Blob with Kevin Dillon? That was funny.

Then you you have the time when Homer Simpson turned into the blob.

Where has Originality gone….the 70's were the last great era in movies!
Even if news was released today that James Cameron was scraping Avatar after the fanboy backlash, this news of a Rob Zombie reinvention of the Blob would still be the worst movie news of the day. in fact anything involving Rob Zombie and movies will always be the worst movie news of the day. I would prefer to hear that Uwe Boll is doing a reimagining of 2001:A Space Odyssey
Enough with the remakes! Sure, we've had some decent remakes here and there, but If Rob Zombie cared about The Blob, or Halloween for that matter, he'd honor them BY NOT REMAKING THEM! Essentially, he's saying "I can do this better." he, and the rest of Hollywood should just try to conceive of something original for a change.
Johnny Drama was in the blob!? :O Quality lol
Who would honestly want to see this? It's Cinema Repellent.
Uwe Boll reimagining 2001: A Space Odyssey…man that is just wrong. That statement alone is like a dark satanic incantation.
Because he can do it better.
of all the movies he could remake, he picks the blob? i hope this movie fails hard so that just maybe movie companies will stop thinking any hack can pick up a story and direct and will try and focus more on good direction
i like the simpsons
