SPIDER-MAN Parts 5 and 6 Gets a Screenwriter

Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures are currently prepping up to start filming Spider-Man 4, which will go into production early next year. We have heard rumors of a 5th and 6th Spider-Man movie possibly happening as well, but there have been no confirmations. We have now learned that Sony Pictures has hired screenwriter James Vanderbilt to write the scripts for Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6, so I guess they are seriously looking at taking the franchise to the next level.
James Vanderbilt was the first screenwriter on Spider-Man 4 before Raimi brought in another screenwriter David Lindsay-Abarie, to re-write the script, after he did added his touch, Gary Ross was brought in to re-write that script. Vanderbilt actually wrote one of my favorite movies, David Fincher’s Zodiac. He also wrote a few other films such as Darkness Falls, Basic, The Rundown, and The Losers, which is currently shooting.
Now Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are not all signed on for a 5th or 6th film. Part four could be there last Spider-Man film. If they decided not to come back for these next two films, Sony plans on using these scripts as a blueprint to re-boot the whole franchise. I doubt that Raimi will return due to the fact he will be directing the new World of Warcraft movie after Spider-Man 4, and who knows what kind of movie franchise that will blow up into. My guess is, if Raimi doesn’t return, Maguire and Dunst wont return either.
Sony is prepping up already because they don’t want a huge time lapse between Spider-Man films. They want to keep their biggest franchise alive. I think they know Raimi is out after this, and they are counting on the re-boot.
What are your thoughts on Sony and how they have been dealing with the Spider-Man franchise? And yes, we all know part three sucked, and that was mostly Sony, not Raimi, but that aside, what do you think?

Throw them all out. Raimi should have stayed with what he can direct well, Bruce Campbell and silly horror films. The only good Spider-Man was 2 and that is because of the influence of Michael Chabon. The first one was silly and boring, and 3 was absolutely terrible. I have never been convinced of Tobey Maguire as either Parker or Spidey, he's a wuss and terrible actor, and Dunst couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Plus, she's hideous. And what's with her gnarly teeth? I say f*ck number 4 and reboot the franchise now based on the Ultimate Spider-Man work.
I want them to reboot it too. This is everything I find wrong in all of the movies that need to be fixed: Spiderman 1 should not have had Mary Jane. It should have been Gwen Stacy from the start, Goblin kidnaps her, whaetver and then Peter saves her and Goblin gets away. The next one should have been some other villain. Then 3 Goblin returns, Gwen dies in the end. Thats where the franchise should be, BUT no. Now in the second spidey, I thought it was good, some nice story additions and what not but they made a big mistake. Harry should have found out about peter being spidey and gone into drugs like the comics, then the third one could have been ONLY venom and Harrys drug problem and peter trying to help him with the influence of the symbiote drama drama. Then the 4 should have been Harry taking over the mantle of Goblin and perhaps a backup villain. But in the 3rd one, they just HAD to kill harry and totally ditch any hopes of being true to Harrys comic book drug issue.
Now all that, I have dealt with but in the 3rd that just made me REALLY mad. They should NEVER have included venom. Venom could have been the 4th, but NO they had to stick him in the end of the 3rd for twenty minutes. Then they messed with Peters origin with sandman…it was just…garbage and a total mockery and terrible to the greatness of the comics. It should have just been Sandman, and New Goblin and Sandman should have gone nuts fighting for his daughter and Goblin came to help and then the ending is happy. They totally ditched a perfect sick daughter storyline an hour into the movie. He just wanted to kill spider-man in the end. Who does that? "spider-man…save my sick daughter…oh I will kill spiderman." No! So many problems with this franchise. I hope after the 4th they all just go away and reboot it and fix everything. Sorry for the rant. Had to get it off my chest after reading this. lol.
I don’t hold out much for Spidey4. I’d rather have them spend the cash on mind-wiping Spiderman 3 out of the World’s memory. Then take the cash for Spiderman 5 and spend it remaking Spiderman 3. Then, and only then, can we MAYBE get excited.
I'm tired of all these reboots. Who wants to go see origin stories again. What happens after the reboots are done? Reboot again?
Liked 1, 2 had it moments, I have part 3 cause it was free with my PS3. Please do something drastic to effect the story of spiderman… death, great loss maybe a Incredible Hulk cross over. I don't either way I'll be using 6 hours of my life watching them.
just put down the franchise and walk away slooooowly….thats it….keep your hands where i can see them…your doing great….DONT TOUCH THAT FRANCHISE! HANDS IN THE- *BANG!* AWW, SH*T!…he wont be getting back up again….and neither will the franchise. mission accomplished.
and just because no one touched on this….why world of warcraft? why? there are other better movies that could be made, better screenplays to be written! why must this film exist? it just seems to go from bad to worse, doesnt it? I would seriously rather see a wolverine sequel than WOW or another spiderman, reboot or otherwise. speaking of which, a Reboot movie would be awesome….who remembers that show?
I agree with Daveym why all the reboots, we all know these characters origins anyway. Its time straight up just adapt great comics into movies. Dude, give me Xmen Age of Apocalypse, Xcutioners song, House of M, not Xmen first class, at least they tried to do this with wolverine but watered it down so it was almost unrecognizable. The only reason these reboots keep getting made is to make these films highly digestible to the masses, don't include any backstory in your film and you cut your audience in half because they don't know whats going on and will blow it off. But really hollywood stop making these terrible cut and paste franchise films with no story or recognizable context to the original works. (Transformers Anyone). The reason these comics are getting made into films in the first place is because the stories are quality and have developed huge fan-bases as so why go and F*** it all up? I will never understand hollywood I guess.

You what would be amazing? If Sam Raimi inserts the Punisher as a rival of Spidey. It would b neat 2 c the 2 duel it out like in the animated series. Nebody remember those from Sat mornings? lol… It could w/something like Punisher walking away from their confrontation after he sees spidey put down Kingpin or somebody sinister like that.
But speaking of reboots, plz no more! I'm glad there was a Hulk reboot cuz the 1st one just suxed. Ed Norton was SOOOOOOO Much better nd the movie actually kept my interest til the end. New super hero options 2 explore could b movies based on say…Wonder Woman? How awesome would it b 2 c a gorgeous blonde take up the mantle of the Amazonian that won our hearts nd much more? hehe… Seriously tho, Green Lantern. Nd make it a black guy as lead just like the Justice League series did. My god, if u want a cool movie 4 shit's nd giggles, nothing could beat a Black Green Lantern! honestly, I wanna c a super hero movie based on Freakazoid. Alright, enuff Kidding. Let's take a break from super hero movies. I hear that more Iron Men, Hulk nd possible Avengers is in the works, if that's true then great! Make those movies awesome nd let every1 take a decade long break until the next set of superhero films!
