Will HALO: REACH be Bungies last HALO game?

If you have been following the HALO video game developments then there is no doubt that you have heard Bungie say:
“Halo: Reach will be Bungie’s last Halo game,”
Which is just one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Are they really going to give up on their most successful franchise? There is still so much life in the Halo franchise, so much more of that world to explore. I for one would love to see the story continue and how much better, and more awesome they can make the game. Bungie community director Brian Jarrard added some clarification to the statement regarding Reach being their last Halo game.
The clarification is we just don’t know at this point. I’m not really able to speculate on what we’re going to do after Reach. I wouldn’t confirm or deny at this point. We’re really excited to get Reach out the door. Beyond that, we’re not at liberty to say right now what’s next. I think there’s a lot of work just to get Reach done between now and next fall. At that point anything’s possible. We’re going to keep looking at making the games we want to make. Maybe that’s Halo. Maybe it’s not. We’ll have to wait and see.
Sure, they can continue to make more and different games, but Halo has a built in fan base that will guarantee sales… big sales, whereas some of the other games they make wont have the same effect Halo does, even though they will most likely be really good. I think they should make some new games. I’m sure the have some great ideas up their sleeve.
Personally I think we will see Bungie develop more Halo games. Maybe we wont see another Halo game from Bungie for a few years, because they will probably be working on some other things. In the meantime, we have ODST and Reach to look forward to!

I don't hate Halo i just think it is the single most over rated game ever made.
Frankly, the Halo game is getting old and it needs to die soon. That is hard to say, cause I'm a huge fan. I would like to see more spin offs like Halo Wars and whatever else they have planned. ODST looks awesome. I'm getting that at launch. The reason some think the game is over rated is because it is hyped up so much. A lot of people love this game and people don't understand that so they hate on it.

This was upsetting news to me as well.
At a certain point, Big Games, like HALO, get so popular and make so much money, that devs are afraid to change the formula, or publishers don't want them to. With good reason, but this limits the growth of a franchise, and the gameplay becomes stagnant. Halo 1 and Halo 3 are exactly the same game just shinier. ODST does look good since it changes the halo formula alot, no stupid high jumping, weapon recoil, and reduced health, gratefully it won't be more of the same bounce and shoot, bounce and shoot.

Give the guys a break. They've been living and breathing Halo for ten years now and will be for some time to come. If they'd like to do something else with their talents then more power to them. Sometimes it's not about money…it's about wanting to do something else.

Halo CE was the single greatest Xbox Original game of all time.

; and Chiper was correct in the fact that Bungie stated that Halo3 was the last installment. Yeah that was a real kick in the balls… and now we have 3 more games released or releasing AFTER Halo3.
