Will We See a Third X-FILES Movie?

The X-Files is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. The first movie was good, but that second X-Files film that was made really kinda sucked ass. It was nice to bring these two iconic character back together again, but boy did they really take that story in the wrong direction. It was worse than any of the TV episodes that were made. After seeing this movie crash and burn I didn’t think we would ever see another X-Files movie, but it looks it is at least being discussed right now. I wouldn’t mind another X-Files movie as long as it is something that will blow audiences away with a brilliant story, if they can’t do that then there is no reason to peruse it.
Bloody-disgusting says:
We can tell you that there is in fact talk about doing another. Something we can add to the story is there is talk of a REBOOT.
That really doesn’t come as a surprise, as long as they don’t replace Scully and Mulder. They are the backbone of the franchise, take them out and the franchise is dead. Gillian Anderson recently told the foreign website Dnevnik the following:
Of course I would accept to play in a new (third) X-FilesĀ movie.
The website goes on to say:
With this statement, the actress wanted to let people know that she’s not bothered with the fact that most of the people call her “Agent Scully” which she has played over a decade in a tv-show and the two feature movies. The third movie, according to her, is in early stages and should be filmed by 2012!
So what do you think about the idea of the possiblity of a third X-Files Film?

With a good story going back to the "main" storyline….I could see it work.
The second film was actually based on an early X-Files episode (if I remember correctly).
Gillian actually said this about XF3 ; http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=1476...
No wonder it was utter shite! That wasn't even a movie. It was a tele episode with a long middle and a boring ending. They need to make this the real X-File like movie instead of that last rubbish they pumped out. LOL!! Bollocks!
I completely disagree with your analysis of I Want to Believe, but fans who want aliens or things like that are bound to be more receptive to the 3rd film that's currently being discussed–2012, aliens, mythology, the works. And total thumbs up for bring Mulder and Scully back again. Those two are still among the best characters to ever come out of television.
If Fox actually gives them some money and time to make a third movie, I can see it being a success. They gave them $30 million or thereabouts and about half a year to get from filming to release. They started filming in December and released it in July the next year. What the hell kind of schedule is that???? On that kind of budget??? Come on…
Not to mention that Fox did almost NO promotion for the second movie… oh, and there was that pesky release date a week after The Dark Knight….
I heard about this at XFN, and I really, really hope that it's true. Everybody please check out the XF3 Army… it's a campaign being led by XFilesNews, and so far, it's going really well!
WE WANT A THIRD MOVIE. Make it happen!
for sure the second movie seemed like a well played out show on tv – nothing too spectacular and quite boring if at all. i would welcome both characters again if they revisited something from the tv show but with a better movie style execution as was done in the first one – the mythos played out well in the first. to me at least, thank god there is fringe on fox, because to me that plays strong homage to the xfiles stylization and the character type mythos that i came to love. if they make it ill see it no matter what. until then, i will call fringe my home away from home.
Yes Yes YESSSS!! This is FANTASTIC news!!
I NEED XF3 to happen!!!! Please, rumor, be true, lol!
So so ture.
I couldnt agree more!

Agreed.
They can really market this right with the whole 2012 scare. I will see it no matter what as I grew up with the show – never missed an episode
i feel like the 2nd one wasn't true to the x files universe at all. it was more of a thriller than a what is out there type of movie. not to mention the lack of marketing. lack of promotion. lack of movie trailers and so on.
I want to believe was ok, but not a great movie, at least not a great X-Files move.
I hope that they make a good movie this time, even if it has to be direct to video…
