Shane Acker is the mastermind behind the forthcoming cg animated sci-fi adventure film 9 which opens next week. 9 takes place in a post apocalyptic future where man made machines have killed of humanity. A small group of tiny creatures fight to save what is left of the world. The film is produced be Timur Bekmambetov and the legendary Tim Burton. 9 is however the brainchild of writer director Shane Acker who created the original treatment on his own.

Shane Acker recently spoke with FirstShowing.net about what may lie in store for the world of 9,

Who knows, there might be a sequel in the works. There’s still more territory to be mined, more stories to be told in this world. We just loosely kicked around ideas. I think everyone’s poised to see if the films works, if it finds an audience and makes some money. I think everyone is chomping at the bit to see if it does, and if it does, then maybe there will be an opportunity to make a sequel. I think it would be a great world to revisit.

So it sounds like he has a massive world envisioned for the universe of 9. I am really excited for this film. Especially considering it is a completely original story that Shane himself created. I am glad that we are seeing some slight resurgence of original content again. This summer has already brought us some great original films like Moon and District 9,that unfortunately had to fight their way through the onslaught of remakes, reboots and bastardized properties.

9 is sure to be the beginning of a great new franchise. And with the rating of Pg-13, it is available to a very broad audience.
