CHILDREN OF THE CORN is going to be Remade

The Weinstein Co. has decided that they need to reboot another horror film franchise. The next victim to fall into the the Hollywood remake hole is Stephen King’s Children of the Corn, which tells the story of a boy preacher who persuades the children in a Nebraska town to kill all the adults. The film had already been made into a feature film starring Linda Hamilton, in 1984. I love the story that King wrote, and I love the original film. Like all remakes there is not way they will be able to capture the creepiness of the original film, but of course they think they can do better. Here is what Weinstien had to say.
We felt the New World film was a missed opportunity. If you read the short story, it’s got such a strong feeling to it and there’s this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard. It’s popular in Hollywood to say you re-envisioning a project but a lot of the time they’re just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story.
Maybe it’s been a long time since he has seen the original film because there is a strong religious overtone to it! The he goes on to say that “It’s popular in Hollywood to say you re-envisioning a project but a lot of the time they’re just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story.” Fact of the matter is The Weinsteins and the rest of Hollywood have run out of original ideas. No matter how much the say they aren’t doing the same movie, the fact of the matter is they are making the same movie! We aren’t idiots, like they think we are.
The first movie wasn’t an amazing film, it was pretty low quality, but thats what made it so good! Thats why it’s creepy. What do you all think about this news?
“Don’t just stand there! Seize him! Punish him! The Lord has chosen me as the bringer of His word and the giver of His laws! Disobedience to me is disobedience to Him! Do it now, or your punishment shall be a thousand deaths, each more horrible than the last!”

really? REALLY? can they not think of anything new?
I seriously think that these studios have a list of movies from the past 30-40 years and just pick which ones they want to remake every year. Is this remake really necessary???
Definitely not a fan. I love all of the old Stephen King movies because they're old. You're right by saying that's what makes them creepy.
Maybe if it does bad enough in theaters people will start getting the idea that maybe remakes are a bad idea.
Dr. Venkman did not say that Children of the Corn is good because it is old, he said it was good because it was low quality. Just because a film is old does not translate to the movie being of high caliber. I think what you meant was that it was from the 80's – i.e. has certain nostalgic feelings and/or filmed a certain way.
