D23 and Flashforward Pilot

Hey gang! I had the opportunity to attend Friday’s D23 day. It was held at the Anaheim Convention Center.  For those of you who don’t know what D23 is, it’s basically the Comic-Con for Disney geeks. It’s pretty cool, not at all as crowded as Comic-Con, but it’s still pretty cool and interesting to see all the Disney geeks get together and show the disney love. There were booths for animation where some animators had the opportunity to show off their work, sell stuff and what not. There were collectors and memorabilia vendors selling eveything from cutesy backpacks, to Nightmare before Christmas socks, to old animation cells, to winnie the poo lunch boxes. It was cool.

There were also booths for ABC and you know what that means: LOST! There were areas where fans had the opportunity to look at actual props from the show. Things like Ben Linus’ passport, John Locke’s oceanic place ticket, to the Mary statues that had the hidden cocaine and Dharma uniforms galore! There was also an area where you could sign up for LOST University. If you don’t know what that is, and you’re a LOST fan, I recommend you check it out here: www.lostuniversity.com.

We also had the opportunity to check out the pilot episode of Flash Forward. It was cool.  They had us in a huge room with a bunch of T.V.s set up so you had a feel like you were sitting at home.  It wasn’t set up like the panels at Comic-Con but still pretty cool.  We sat through the whole episode and let me tell you, it was AWESOME!  It has alot of the things that LOST fans would like: conspiracy, immediate chaos just like the LOST pilot, intriguing characters, a good initial set up so it sucks you in immediately.  We left already talking about who is involved with who and what we think will happen next.  Flash Forward, without giving away too much of what you already might have seen in the trailer, is set in the L.A. area.  In it, the whole world blacks out for exactly 2 minutes 17 seconds (numbers again, LOST fans!).  While the world blacks out, people have visions into the their futures in those 2 minutes they are blacked out.  Meanwhile, the world goes on and there is mass chaos when everyone awakens because people were blacked out and couldn’t prevent it.  Things like airplane crashes, to surgeries gone bad because surgeons were blacked out, to the gardner passing out while mowing the lawn and countless car crashes.  It is a very interesting premise and I hope it doesn’t go the way of Fringe, which face it.  It had potential, but sucked after the pilot.   Flash Forward stars Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Dominic Monaghan, and Sonya Walger, the last two LOST alumni aka Charlie and Penny.  Sneak peek courtesy of Hulu.

Flash Forward may be the new LOST…. there I said it!

It was a good time at D23.  Eventually there will be more to it, its pretty new and there will be more to do and see.

peace out, geeks!

well, I hope it's not the next Lost, but the next great sci-fiesque show, although to me that is Dollhouse currently. but still, I don't like using Lost as a touchstone for new shows, because I remember a years back everyone wanted to be the next Lost, with creepy secrets and mysteries that just went nowhere.

uh, fringe had a good first season; and a cool opener this season.
it has a fantastically cool premise and is very sci fi.
it is only at its 20th episode or whatever, judging it a bit early.

yeeaah. but, you have to captivate the audience from the beginning i think and this show just lost alot of its core beginning audience after the first 2 or 3 episodes. I haven't checked out the first episode of this season, i'll admit. so i'll have to check it out :)
