David Cronenberg to Remake his Remake of THE FLY

I guess there are some directors out in the world that just feel that the movies they made the first time around just weren’t good enough, and they think maybe it can be done better. Here’s a question for you, is it OK for a director to remake his own film? Is that exceptable? Is that something to complain about? But this is exactly what is going down
David Cronenberg is currently in talks with FOX to develop a reboot of his 1986 classic film, The Fly. If he does it, he will both write and direct the film. I loved the first movie! It’s just so awesomely gross and creepy. I love the practical effects that were used to create that insanity. I would normally complain about this being remade, but the original director is doing it. Can he bring it to a whole new level? More importantly will Jeff Goldblum star in it!?
In the past Cronenberg said he didn’t want to be involved with a remake of the film, now here he is in talks to remake it. What changed his mind? Did he have an idea he wanted to explore? Did FOX offer him a ton of money, or did they make him an offer he couldn’t refuse? There are so many questions.
The 1986 version was actually a remake of the 1958 sci-fi classic. So technically this will be the remake of a remake. What are your thought on David Cronenberg remaking his own film, The Fly?

I agree..the 86 version is a pretty good movie. I saw it recently and it had a solid story and the effects were awesomely gross and creepy. I really see no need to remake it, but I'd rather see another story where a scientist stumbles on his notes and tries it his way. I'm sure the reboot will have better effects, but more of the unnecessary sexual content, and fluff that only takes away from the secondary remake.
It would be like remaking "John Carpenters "The Thing"…..at least they decided to tell another part of that story w/o effecting the already good story in place. Let it be said though that The Fly remake was not anywhere close to "John Carpenters "The Thing" masterpiece.
"exceptable" ???
nope, that should be:
"ACCEPTABLE"
I liked the original as a child, liked the remake with Goldblum and think with a good script and modern CGI it will be better still third time around. Why not make a remake of a remake? A good story idea is always timeless.
You must be a GT virgin. Tey r nown 4 there tipos!
its better if he ruins his own movie than someone else. remember episode 1-3, im so glad lucas ruined his own work and not some other guy.
i doubt it would be together.
This is the third time Cronenberg has been allegedly attached to something he's previously done. First there were talks of a Videodrome remake, then a sequel to Eastern Promises, now this. So I'll have to believe it when I see it.
But I don't think he's going to attack this material again unless he's got something NEW to say, frankly it's just not his style to re-hash old material. Let's keep in mind that Videodrome is just as if not MORE relevant now than it was 25+ years ago, and his more recent "mainstream" material has been just as poignant and arguably more artful than his early work. Whatever he does next I'll be there opening day.
But I hope he will stick to practical effects not CGI.
