First COWBOY BEBOP Script would have cost Half a Billion Dollars to Make

Whoa. Keanu Reeves recently sat down and did a little interview with MTV in which he talks about the live-action Cowboy Bobop film that he is set to star in. He will be playing Spike Spiegel. In the interview he talks about how the script is currently going through a rewrite, not because it was bad but because it would have cost half a billion dollars to make! Here’s what he said:
There’s a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars.
Peter Craig is writing the script, and in the past he has talked bout how extremely faithful his screenplay was to the original anime series. Now that the script is being rewriten for a smaller budget will that faithful vision be compromised? When the script went to the studio executives said his scope of the script was too much for them. Reeve said laughing:
So the studio went, ‘This movie is fantastic and it would cost half a billion dollars, so he’s doing a rewrite.
As for whom is going to be in the movie that was in the anime series, Reeves says:
Everyone is in there. The only challenge was to make a satisfying western narrative out of the kind of storytelling that happens. There’s a great draft, so we’re just trying to pull it back a little bit now.
I’m pretty pumped up about this film if it’s as good as everyone is saying it is. Maybe the fans of the series will be happy. Only time will tell. From what it sounds like, it is going to get a really good adaptation. What do you think about it?

I can NOT see Keanu as Spike…. I really cant. I hope the live action version will be good but I have my doubts that it will capture a lot of the subtle nuances of the series. I guess we will soon see.
What's bringing the budget up, I wonder? CG and special effects? Or do they actually want to shoot it in space? Haha.
As long as it doesn't look like Speed Racer and remains faithfully written, I'll be happy.
Of course when I say "doesn't look like Speed Racer" I mean, I don't want to be overwelmed with "flashy" sci fi and razzle dazzle on the screen. Keep it the sci fi aspect gritty but not so much up front.
As a fan of the series, my expectations are at the bottom of the barrel. Just hearing that they had an amazing, FAITHFUL script and it has to be shrunk and watered down has me ready to swear the whole thing off….again.
And Keanu as Spike? Gimme a break.
I would give my arm not to see Keanu as Spike. There are so so so so SOOOO many other talented actors out there that could do this amazing series justice. I just DO NOT think Keanu has the acting chops to pull of the ultimate cool of Spike
i think its the weirdest thing that everyone thinks Keanu can't act, he 100% can act, and you know for a fact he will put his heart and soul into making sure he is prepared for the role. rest is up the writers / directors.
This can't be allowed to happen !! Wasting hundreds of millions on crap like Cowboy Bebop is further proof of how bankrupt Hollywood's imagination has gotten. Shame on anyone that wants this crud being made into a movie.

Thank you! While I do not think he is the most talented actor by any means, I definitely think he has skills. Nobody could play Neo better than him.
Its not as if its a reboot. Its based on an anime which is written work. Hollywood used to alwyas base movies on novels
How many good movies have come from Canada lately? First person to get 'Rocky and Bullwinkle' does not get a cookie. Be happy for the fact that this isn't the next Superman or, heaven forbid, a 4th Matrix movie.
