FlashForward Gives Major LOST Spoiler?

The new TV show FlashForward threw out a major Lost spoiler in the background of their last episode. If you were wondered what happened at the end of last season’s Lost season finale, the answer was flashed before our eyes. If you haven’t seen the last episode of last season, if you keep reading, I will spoil it for you.

Juliet fell down the hole to detonate a hydrogen bomb which in theory was supposed to reset history in a world where Oceanic Flight 815 didn’t crash. Well, it looks like that plan may have worked. In the screenshot below for Flash Forward, you can see an Oceanic Airline billboard in the background. You can’t really see it here, but in high definition you can see it says at the top:

Perfect Safety Record.

FlashForwardOceanicBillboard

SpectraNUT from the ABC message board has a great theory:

The “perfect safety record” ties in with the fact that Season 6 is going to start out with the “alternate timeline” as if the plane never crashed. The Bomb was detonated by Jack at the end of Season 5 and theoretically that was supposed to change everything. So, based on THAT premise, Oceanic’s record WOULD BE PERFECT.

I couldn’t agree with him more! But then maybe the creators of Lost were just messing around with us, because they really like to do that. At the same time at the Lost Comic-Con panel, we were shown several “commercials” that showed what life would have been like for the the passengers of of flight 815 had the plane not crashed. We have also been told that everyone from the first season would be back for the last. The only way I can see this happening is if Jack’s plan worked and their lives were reset. What do you all think?

i can only sit back and let the cards play out where they may. having been a big fan of lost, i can only let itself workout itself out in a way that i couldnt have imagined. so i await and embrace whatever awesomeness that can only be given to us by such great writers and developers. thanks!

or it's just sillyness from the creators of flashforward giving a shout out….I cannot see season 6 being an alternate time line, if only because it negates the previous 5 seasons, even if the few characters that were "touched" by Jacob still have their island memories, it would take some amazingly stellar writing to make it work, and really, it's a bit late in the game to jettison 5 seasons of build. Besides, knowing how devoted us losties are, scouring every inch of the interwebs for clues, flashforward and abc might be trying to rope us in. Although the 1st ep was a bit slow in places, its got potential, i'll be watching.

Could FlashForward, which in essence is a LOST reference, be a Spin-off of LOST? I mean Lost is ending after the next season and maybe they could easily tie in what ends LOST to what happens with the world blacking out in FF. Its would be a very cool and different way to have a spin-off and continue the world of LOST after the island. The OCEANIC billboard already tells us that these shows are with in the same reality.

  4. WWOFTBBNR on September 26th, 09

I think it's ridiculous that people are trying to call this a tie-in. All of this is ABC trying to hook people who watch LOST – and obviously it's working. The Office and Chuck have both included little LOST tidbits; are they tie-ins? Does Michael Scott exist in the same reality as Jack Shepherd? Dom Monaghan appeared on Chuck, but not as Charlie? Is this a LOST clue?

Seriously people, if you think that FF is tied to LOST, you got got by ABC's marketing department.

  5. @shadownlite on September 26th, 09

For all we know it may just be a tounge in cheek joke by the makers fo Fast Forward. Only time will tell.

  6. RODA on September 26th, 09

My Lord, is that what Lost has been reduced to?A complete restart? What started as a really intriguing and ground breaking TV show has descended into easy way out Deus Ex Machina.

Excited for FlashForward’s debut on UK TV. Heard only good things from it.

  7. bogie on September 26th, 09

I agree that ABC wants to retain the LOST fan base with the show ending but I think it would be an interesting way to transition if the two shows were linked in some way instead of just shoving lame easter eggs in the episodes that have nothing to do with the story. LOST at least puts a lot of thought behind everything they include knowing the fans will dissect every second of every episode. I admit I am probably wrong with my assumption anyway because Dom Monaghan is in FF but is another character so unless the LOST ending has some explanation as to why he would be a different person or have a new identity I am wrong. It still would be a very cool idea and groundbreaking television.

I suspect FastForward is just taking the piss, but if you look at the current science around Time Travel (& also the science of time travel as interpreted in Star Trek movie) you get a clearer idea of how the next season of LOST might evolve. By travelling back in time you CREATE a parallel dimension with a different destiny. For example, if you traveled back to 2001 there would be a copy of yourself as you were in 2001 and YOU the time traveler who traveled back to 2001…but you couldn't travel to your parallel dimension, time in your earlier dimension would just carry on without you..and you would be stuck in said parallel dimension. You could travel forward in the parallel dimension though. Thus Julia might die from the nuclear bomb blast but she would (all other things being the same) also be born in the world, and would grow up in the world leading her own life, etc… If Hurley, etc.. survived the bomb blast then they would be stuck in 1970 and versions of themselves would be born sometime in the future whose lives would carry on as if Oceanic hadn't happened.

Michael Scott doesn't exist in the same reality as Jeck Shepherd; he exists in the same reality as we do, where we all watch Lost on TV. Bad examples buddy.

  10. Mak on September 26th, 09

Did anyone notice that the two characters were talking about the song "Islands In The Stream" seconds before showing the Oceanic billboard??? Island. Timestream. TOTAL Lost reference/tie-in/easter-egg/whatever you call it.

@RODA “My Lord, is that what Lost has been reduced to?A complete restart?”

The show finishes at the end of this coming season; do you really think they’re going to do a complete restart only to end 18 episodes later? And make everything we’ve seen a waste of time? If there’s an alternate timeline, it’ll be their version of a “flashback/flash-forward.”

uhh who cares? wrap this up JJ then do DARK TOWER!!!

  13. Azreal71 on September 28th, 09

Wait a min?! If im not mistaken the crash never happened in the first place! it was a staged ploy by whats his name? Daniel Faraday’s father! he eve said it was a “very expensive” ploy. I was just looking at that episode on my iPod touch and he did clearly tell Daniel this, Daniel had some sort of mental problem, was crying when Mr. Faraday came to see him I think this was a fast-forward scene, But daddy told Daniel that there was a way he could change his condition and save lives, by returning to that point and detonate the H-bomb!

  14. Neil on September 28th, 09

@Azreal71. Dude, you need to get your ears checked. Widmore staged the WRECKAGE of Flight 815 so the rest of the world would stop looking for it. That is what he told Faraday. Widmore wants the island to himself.

As for this “spoiler,” an Oceanic Airlines commercial was played at the Lost ComicCon panel this summer that said the exact same thing, so this is only a spoiler to the casual Lost fan (or those thattry to avoid spoilers).

My thought on this is that in S6 instead of flashbacks/flashforwards, Jughea detonating will cause the Losties to see flashes of what their lives would have been like if 815 landed safely in LA similar to what Desmond experienced in ‘Flashes Before Your Eyes.’. These flashes of what could have been will feul their decision to fight for or against Jacob. They could also provide the way to bring all past characters back in these flashes OR fLocke (Jacob’s nemesis) will take their forms throughout the season.

    Any thoughts on this?

Neil I totally agree with what you have said, flashes in the new series will be flashes into what may have happened if the plane never crashed, although will it be conveyed as reality or just dreams…….will need some serious good writing….

The only thing that's ridiculous here are your comments. Your reasoning doesn't even make sense. The Office and Chuck are not even ABC shows so why would they have tie-ins? I don't remember the characters on The Office ever mentioning Jack Shepherd (although they could have) but I do remember them mentioning Jack Bauer (character on 24). And your reference to Dominic Monaghan appearing on Chuck? Ha ha. Not even a valid argument. Just because an actor appeared on both doesn't mean it's a tie-in. You're going to say "that was my point", but no one other than you even brought this up. People in this thread have a lot more sense than you because they are questioning the Oceanic reference, which is actually part of the LOST show. It's not like Oceanic Air is an actual airline and people are just randomly relating the two shows…the producers of Flash Forward obviously did this on purpose. The shows might not be "tied" together, but ABC is obviously trying to promote LOST or appeal to the LOST viewers. Grow some brains…
