FOX is Gearing Up to Reboot FANTASTIC FOUR

fantastic four

The same day Marvel Entertainment gets bought up by Disney for $4 billion dollars, Fox quickly announces that they are moving forward with a movie reboot of the Marvel superhero team Fantastic Four. For FOX to be able to keep the Marvel Properties they own, they have to keep pumping out movies based on those characters.

Michael Green has been hired to write the script, he is a co-producer on the TV show Heroes, and he also co-wrote Green Lantern. We still have yet to see how good Green Lantern will be. Producing the film is Akiva Goldsman who is currently involved with a few DC comic book films such as Jonah Hex, The Losers, and Teen Titans.

I wasn’t a big fan of the first two Fantastic Four films, and I’m not very excited to see FOX come in a ruin it all over again. Chances are they will reboot the franchise by recasting all of the characters, but still end up with a weak script and a bad movie. I just don’t see it being any better than what they have already done. I just don’t think they know what to do with these characters.

What are you thoughts on FOX rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise?

Its just like changing the currency in a country, demonstrates weakness.

I too thought the first two were very 'bubblegum' and lacked any edge. A writer from Heroes won't cut it. It needs to be 1000% darker, Use Agatha Harkness, great character. Johnny's chip, Ben's sarcasm, Reed's need to justify his guilt, Sue's strength. Lose Doom. I am so looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

Akiva Goldsman gave us "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin." I doubt I will be seeing his FF offering based on his awful track record with the genre. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse for this series.

The problem is that the Fantastic Four deal alot with Space and extra Dimensional foes and its hard to write a script that catches the magnitude of FF's specialized defense of humanity. Rise of Silver Surfer came somewhat close and still was way off the mark. I would be somewhat excited for an animated reboot with a strong script. Cast dynamite voice actors and give it the dark edge we need to see and the scope that is required.

The first two movies weren't all that bad and maybe the third times the charm.

It's FOX. My expectations for anything they produce that isn't a television drama are so low they'd make the space between a lowered limbo stick and the floor look spacious.

I agree the first two movies were not that bad, especially the 2nd with Silver Surfer, but I doubt another reboot is what these characters need. The first two movies were just to introduce the characters to a new audience. Now that's done, I agree with the comments that a darker path needs to be explored with the characters as well as the story. Also, I think it should be in animation. Can do a lot more that way. A lot of fertile ground for the right writer.

I'm already terrified of what Fox is going to do, but what really gets me is that the F4 movies are still relatively new! Why reboot?

no no…keep doom that's very important that we keep doom. but he needs to be made the bloody baron of latveria

I don't think a reboot is necessary. They can take the darker turn with the existing actors or start the movie well after they gain their powers. I'm really not interested in seeing another origin story for the Fantastic Four.

I agree Stones! Don't start it all over again!
