What? Does Australia have something against killing zombies?! I am a big Left For Dead fan, and I can’t wait for the sequel. I know I will be able to get myself a copy, but what about the thousands of Australians that won’t be able to get one!? This really sucks. The Zombie survival shooter has been refused classification, preventing the title from being sold on Australian shelves.
So why was it refused classification? The copy of the board report gives the following reason:
The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 years to play.
The game contains realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence which is inflicted upon “the Infected” who are living humans infected with a rabies-like virus that causes them to act violently.The player can choose from a variety of weapons including pistols, shotguns, machine guns, and sniper rifles. However, it is the use of the “melee” weapons such as the crowbar, axe, chainsaw, and Samurai sword which inflict the most damage. These close in attacks cause copious amounts of blood spray and splatter, decapitations and limb dismemberment as well as locational damage where contact is made to the enemy which may reveal skeletal bits and gore. Projectile shots to infected humans can cause abdominal wounds which can reveal innards or even cause intestines to spill from the wounds.
Wow, I’m sorry but, this game sounds freakin awesome! I would consider this a very positive review of the game in my eyes, and I can’t wait to kill me some zombies! It’s a zombie game! With out all the frentic and unrelenting violence it would be a pretty lame zombie game.
EA Australia has issued the following statement:
[We] are still working through the submission process with OFLC and want to explore all opportunities before making any comment.
Hopefully they can come up with a way to allow this game to be released in Austrailia, without giving them an edited version.

Aye, it sucks. I'm an Aussie.. the real problem is our lack of a R18+ rating for this kind of thing. Other games have been edited to fit into the MA15+ rating, but I don't think that's really an ideal solution.

It's the response from Michael Atkinson, SA Attorney General, about why he wont support an R18+ rating.. the sorriest quote is at the top of the article:
"…I cannot fathom what State-enforced safeguards could exist to prevent R18+ games being bought by households with children and how children can be stopped from using these games, once the games are in the home. If adult gamers are so keen to have R18+ games, I expect children would be just as keen. I have publically argued that because electronic games are interactive, the violence and other adult content in games have a strong impact. I am particularly concerned about the impact these games have on children, who can spend a lot of their unsupervised leisure time gaming."
Basically, "Won't somebody think of the children!"

The Australian classification board are idiotic. The people who want it, WHO ARE OVER 18, will import it from another territory, therefore hurting the Australian video game industry. Completely backwards approach down here. I guess they don't call it down under for nothing.
Wow. That's like saying Alcohol should be banned because once the alcohol is in a house there's nothing to stop the teenagers/children drinking it…
great analogy. im an aussie too and hate the classification board. i dont understand why they cant just introduce the R18… i'll deff be importing.
They should ban Porn while they're at it. I mean really… once it's in the house the kids will get their hands on it then we're really fucked.
jesus seriously if its that bad y not just take out some of the blood splatters i mean seriously we have gears of war and games like that in australia why is it just this one?
