PIXARS CARS 2 Plot Details Revealed

I’m sure you all knew that Pixar was developing a sequel to Cars, but if you didn’t then now you know, and knowing is half the battle. The movie is due to be released in the summer of 2011 and is being directed by Brad Lewis, who produced on of my favorite Pixar films Ratatouille.

John Lasseter gave a little Disney presentation in London today and revealed that the plot will focus on Larry the Cable Guy’s character, Mater, and reveals the following:

The story sees Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), his pit team and new pit boss Mater head around the world for the Race of Champions, to take place in five different countries and involve the champions of different disciplines like Formula One and rally driving. First up is a race in Tokyo, starting at Mount Fuji and heading downtown; then there’s a German race through the Black Forest; then “Porto Corsa” in Italy, which is based partly on the Monte Carlo Grand Prix; then a 24-hour race around Paris (so somewhat like Le Mans then) and finally a thrilling climax in London, approaching Buckingham Palace (where the guards appear to be Land Rovers).

But all this racing is not the only focus. Mater, who we know from the series of cartoon shorts Mater’s Tall Tales (more on that in our blog in a minute) is prone to exaggeration, gets involved in a “Hitchcockian” case of mistaken identity, saves the life of a British secret agent called Finn McMissile (who looks a heck of a lot like an Aston Martin) and becomes embroiled in a huge spy thriller. Only no-one believes him. That too comes to a head at Buckingham Palace.

Along the way there are towtruck-abroad pictures to be taken at the Oktoberfest in Germany (where Mater wears “Materhosen”) and harassing the aforementioned Palace Guards.

Sounds like it could end up being better than the first one! I liked Cars, but it is definitely near the bottom of the list when it comes to what Pixar films I like most. Everyone will come back to reprise their voice roles, as for who will voice the secret agent Fin McMissile, we don’t know but would it be awesome if they could get Sean Connery?

So what are your thoughts on Pixars Cars 2 storyline?

Hey why does everybody dog Cars as one of the worst Pixar movies. I'm sorry but for me, it ranks right at the top behind Finding Nemo. I feel that it is visually the greatest achievement in animation ever recorded to digital film. I don't care if the story was supposedly stolen from some Michael J Fox movie…the movie itself was heartfelt and endearing. This movie rocked! Now about the sequel? Hum…not so sure.

The first is good, but a little too slow. It was nice to see the racing and the tricked out cars characters, but the pace made you feel like you were stuck in the small town as well. Thank goodness for Mater or that movie would have tanked.
