Review: Supernatural Season 5 Episode 3 ‘Free To Be You And Me’

As Sam and Dean’s stories start to separate Dean finds himself with Cas searching for the archangel Raphael while Sam is seeing his long dead ex-girlfriend.Bobby is still recouping but is still confined to a wheel chair.
Dean and Cas summon Raphael so they can ask him where God is and as they find the right vessel for Raphael and they do their little mojo fire dance he appears only to give them the news that “God is dead”.
Sam makes a new friend as he tries to make a new life without hunting being involved only to be pursued by some thugs who have a get even agenda against Sam, and they are packing……demon blood. As the thugs hold Sam’s new female friend hostage and threaten to kill her unless he drinks up he puts up a fight only to end up pinned down while they poor the vial of blood down his throat. Sam not wanting to go back to his black-eyed demon ways, stays strong and then tells the guys to get lost. Sam ends up back in his motel room to wake up with his “dead-ex only to finally find out it’s actually good ol Lucifer in disguise. Lucifer informs Sam that he is indeed the vessel for his return!
So the beginning of this season we find out Dean is the vessel for Archangel Michael and now Sam is the vessel for Lucifer and Raphael says God is dead (which I DO NOT like) and this looks like it might pit the brothers Winchester up against one another sometime this season in a ‘Good Vs. Evil’ match!
The season keeps getting better and darker, it’s separating the brothers so what will happen and who will win? Tell us what you think!

Like everyone else, I am extremely excited to find out what happens next between Sam and Dean especially since they are now both "angel condoms" (dean = win!). The moment they split up at the end of ep 2 I had flashbacks to the scarecrow episode in season one….unfortunately this split looks like it will last quite a bit longer though. I'm partially betting on an epic battle between Sam and Dean at the end of the season, with one or both of them as vessels. Although there is always that deus ex machina possibility where Dean somehow stops Lucifer from taking Sam's body, but the writers already demonstrated with the end of season 4 that there is no more last minute saving. All I have to say is the season better not end with them dying. again.
On a completely different note, due to the fact that we're all currently focusing on the whole good versus evil thing, check out what's going on with Castiel! Dean taking him to a strip club was priceles..i love his face– O.O And when he turns his back on Raphael and is like, "maybe one day. but for now, you're MY little bitch." SO MUCH WIN!!! He seriously just gets better and better every episode.
And on the "God is dead" topic, I don't think he is. I think he abdicated because he was sick of dealing with it all, or because he got bored. The whole situation reminds me of the Lucifer graphic novels by Mike Carey. God is dead? no. God is bored, is more like it. Maybe he just took a step back and decided to let the apocalypse happen because he wants to start the world fresh too, but also understand the unrest among the angels. 2 birds with one stone. or multiple fiery hailstones. whatever.
Great comment! Yes,Dean's one liners are always priceless! We wont have as many this season but when he slips one in it's a good one! Cas at the club really is priceless! I've even heard their dad might show up by seasons end but we'll just have to wait and see how this "story" is finished!
