Review: Vampire Diaries Episode 1

Vampire Diaries serves as the story of Stefan (Paul Wesley), a centuries old vampire living and blending in to today’s society and it’s high school and also his “special” interest Elena (Nina Dobrey) who we will find out more about through each episode.
As this ‘Pilot’ episode slowly introduces it’s characters it opens with a question, “how can the freakin vampire walk around in the daylight ?” Well, jumping all the way to the end of the episode we find out the mysterious and might I say very large ring serves as protection from sunlight and who knows what else. How did we find out? Well, let’s thank Stefan’s newly arrived “bad guy” brother for letting us in on what that ring is for.
Vampire Diaries has some interesting characters which include the nerd, the two hotties who battle it out to see who’s prettier, a friend who see’s things, the jock, the troubled brother and two vampire brothers (one bad and one good) who will battle it out for a girls love. It has cool throwback FX including fog and crows mixed in with modern CG FX. I need to see some fangs people!
There are so many similarities between Vampire Diaries and ‘Twilight’. It is a mixture of Twilight meets Dawson’s Creek. I want to like it, I will probably keep DVR’ing it but I don’t know if the popular vampire movement can keep it alive, maybe it can, I guess we’ll see. It has a chance as long as something stronger doesn’t rival it’s time slot and remember it has a very, very strong anchor in ‘Supernatural’!
The Vampire Diaries come from the L.J. Smith books by the same name.
Vampire Diaries airs on The CW Thursdays at 7c.

I found the show dull and won't be tuning back in to see if it improves. It was too "CW teen series with emo soundtrack and vampires" for my taste.
I found it amusing that on Twitter the people who loved it were aged 14-17, female, and said things like 'It is lame but the guys are HOT so I will watch it!" Guess they hit their demographic with the show.
Woah no. Those guys are not hot. They're about as hot as the guys from Twilight. And in my opinion, that's a burn. They're all ugly.
As for this vampire movement? I'm ready for it to end now.
gud god if u dont like vampires fair enough but shut up moaning for gods sake! no ones got a gun to your head to make u watch things with them in just avoid it, im sure the next trendu like other will hate as well.
i on the other hand do like vampires and ive looked forward to seeing this since i read the books when i myself was a teenager (that makes me sound old im barely not a teenager) i loved the soundtrack especially with the addition of my favourite song by Placebo.
I freely admit that it wasnt the be all and end all of series but i liked it and I'll definitly be watching again, especially to see how they can develope the stories from the books into a full blown series.
This comparisons to Twilight are so stupid. Twilight should be compared to this. This series of books are way older and anyone who knows both series' knows Twilight is a total rip. They did pretty good with some really storng referances to the books, but with enough changes that it could be a series with pleanty to pull from and run longer.
The comparisons between LJ Smith’s books and the Twilight series is beyond irritating. Everything is copying Stephenie Meyer, yet the Vampire Diaries series was written almost 15 years before Twilight. Seriously? @.@
The comparisons to Twilight are really close but right now i'll watch it and keep reviewing it for you guys till further notice or something better comes on in it's timeslot! HA!
I read the books and I loved them! The whole series kept me hooked, and although I haven't had a chance to watch the first episode of the series yet, I hope it will be the same way. The girl they casted as Elena is very pretty and the other castings are dead on as well. I hope this turns out well!
Ceara-Let us know how close the show stays to the books! And YES Elena is
PRETTY!!!
