Guy Richie to Direct LOBO

Comic book movies are all the craze in Hollywood these days, so its no surprise that big name talent have been attached to many of the projects out there. It is also no surprise that some lesser name characters and books have been coming out. Well DC and Warner Bros have announced the next comic book character to get his screen time…. Lobo . Snatch director and former “Mr Madonna”, Guy Ritchie, is slated to helm the film.
Lobo is about an interstellar alien bad ass bounty hunter. Variety describes the movie version of Lobo as
a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.
Apparently Warner bros is going for a PG-13 rating and by the sound of the story, looks like this will be geared more for younger folk. Then again….it is Guy Ritchie and he has directed films like Snatch and Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. Not really sure how this is going to play out or work. I honestly don’t know too much about the character but I have liked that he wasn’t one of those cliche DC “godlike”, goody goody characters (which is one of those things about DC that I never liked).
The script was written by Don Payne with Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona set to produce the flick. Silver Pictures and Weed Road will split production duties.
No word yet on a cast but the fact that Ritchie is involved gives me some high hopes that this will be good. Ritchie is currently finishing up Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law which will be released later this year.
Who would you like to play Lobo?
