First of all, the teaser poster you see above says, The Karate Kid. But we heard that it was going to be called The Kung-Fu Kid? So are we back on The Karate Kid title even though the character, Dre, is in Hong Kong learning Kung-fu and Chinese? This comes from the Sony Picture’s website, but maybe it is some old art. I don’t know. If it was old you’d think they would take it down.
We posted a couple set photos from the film yesterday, with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan doing their thing with Bamboo sticks.
Jaden Smith plays Dre, a skateboarding video game buff who is forced to move to China after his single mother (Taraji P. Henson) is forced to transfer to the China for work. Of course, unable to speak Chinese, Dre finds it hard to settle in, and gets beat up by the local bully. Jackie Chan plays Mr. Han (the Mr. Miyagi character), a maintenance man who spots Dre’s black-eye and offers to teach him both martial arts and Chinese, so he can defend against the students of Li Quan Ha’s Fighting dragon school of Kung-Fu.
Directed by Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2) and written by Chris Murphy and Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness). Filming on the remake has begun in Beijing, and is expected to last until mid-October.

why we need a remake, I'll never know. SPE should leave the Karate Kid brand alone, and start something new.
i guess they really want Jaden's dad, WIll, for another film !!!
oh, and the art is terrible !
They already remade this and made it modern, see Never Back Down. Kid moves fatherless to new town, gets into with school blond bully, falls for said bully's girl, gets mentor, learns to fight kicks bully's butt and gets girl, same formula.
If this movie doesn't flop, I'll be genuinely shocked.
This is one of the truest statements I have ever heard.
Why? That's all I have to say is: Why?
