Does Anybody Want Another BLAIR WITCH Film?

I was honestly never a big fan of The Blair Witch Project. I did, however like the way the first film was done. Very few movies did that first person style before it and it has definitely helped spawn the trend that has been present in movies these days. Cloverfield being a film to adapt this practice. The creative team behind Blair Witch have been hinting and working on a sequel for quite some time now. Bloody Disgusting recently spoke to Ed Sanchez and Dan Myrick and here is what the two directors had to say:
Between Dan and me and the Haxan guys that did the original BLAIR WITCH, we are about as far along on a sequel idea as we’ve ever been. This is the first idea that Dan and I have really latched onto that we thought, ‘It would be cool.’ It’s a completely different kind of film, but we think it’s in the original spirit of the first one
The first Blair With sequel, entitled, Blair Witch: The Book Of Shadows, received mixed reviews from fans of the first film since it used a completely different film style. The lack of success with that film may be why it has been so long t develop another film. But now it seems they are ready with a new story and hope they to release the info soon. Sanchez goes on to say
In the next couple of weeks, something should happen; either a yes or a no or a maybe. I don’t know how we’re going to release the story or whatever, but something’s probably going to happen by the end of the year where we’ll either say, ‘No, it’s not going to happen’ or hopefully, ‘Yes, it’s gonna happen.’ But the news is coming soon.
Myrick also adds
We’ve been working on an idea and it’s a concept that we like a lot. I can’t say anything about it now. Ed and I feel that the timing is right and enough time has gone by that the backlash to BLAIR WITCH has kind of subsided and a new generation of kids are out to embrace a BLAIR WITCH franchise on the merits of the movie itself rather than it trying to live up or be what the first film was, which it never will be. Our hope is that the sequel will stay within the mythology that we created in the first film and stand on its own two feet; just be a good, cool, thoughtful scary movie that resurrects a franchise that we feel very close to. Hopefully Lionsgate will agree and want to move forward on it.
It seems like that is always the tag line. Everyone always says we want to introduce this to a new generation..blah blah blah. Well at least it isn’t a remake this time. A sequel I can actually respect.
There’s a lot of episodes throughout the history of BLAIR WITCH and even stuff that could be portrayed in the future that you could explore. This is the devil’s triangle in the woods, so anything can happen. If it’s approached in the right way and the audience is given due credit for being thinking individuals, then this could be a cool franchise that delves into a lot of the mythology that has been swirling around this phenomena for years
So there you have it. A new Blair Witch is getting closer and closer to production. We will let you in on more info as it comes out, but, do you want to see another Blair Witch film?

I saw the first Blair Witch the night it opened nation-wide. I'd followed the limited release promotions and loved it. The movie worked for me but I'm the type to buy into an idea until it really stretches too thin and at 90 minutes, it didn't do that for me. I still say the last 5 minutes are the most frightening I've ever had in a movie theater.
If I remember right, the second movie was made by the production company without any connection to the first except the name which was even tweaked from "The Blair Witch Project" to "Blair Witch Project" (a small change except in a court room).
I like what I'm reading here from Sanchez and Myrick, any film-makers who will credit the fans with some intelligence deserve a chance.
Well I think TBWP is one of the best films ever made, let alone one of the best horror films ever made. It's a simple idea executed perfectly.
I'd love anything more from those guys, but what about the horror film set in Afghanistan "The Objective"? Did anyone actually see that? It never made it to Europe anyhow.
I fully enjoyed the first film (Bleah to the second one). I Laughed at all the negative hype it got. I think people were really generally creeped out by it, not shock value scared. Wich was something unique. I agree with Torch911 the las five minutes were utterly brilliant and terrifying. I remember people bitching that they didn't get to see the monster. But that was the idea. Not knowing is far more terrifying than knowing. I will anxious to see this new one, I like what they are saying.
