MARY AND MAX Claymation Feature Trailer

Mary and Max premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it got some very positive buzz. As of right now it has a 95% approval rating on Rottentomatoes. Adam Elliot made his feature film directorial debut with this movie. He actually won an Oscar for a short film he made called, Harvie Krumpet. The movie features the voices of Toni Collette and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Spanning 20 years and 2 continents, Mary and Max tells of a pen-pal relationship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle (Collette), a chubby, lonely 8-year-old living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia; and Max Horovitz (Hoffman), a severely obese, 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in the chaos of New York City.

I really like the setting and style of the story, and claymation feature films are a rarity these days. The movie is based on the directors own experience of having a 20 year pen pal relationship with a man from New York. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

I got to see this over the summer at the Traverse City Film Festival. It's a really fantastic film, one of the best I've seen all year.
