NBC nabs J.J. Abrams’ NEW Spy Drama

I absolutely love hearing about projects that cause a Hollywood “bidding war.” But more often than not, the rabid bidding is over something that excites dollar signs and not quality and originality, e.g. Diablo Cody’s Sweet Valley High remake.

But here is something and someone justifiably worth getting worked up over. NBC beat CBS and ABC over the head(with a now bloody rock), acquiring J.J. Abrams new spy drama.

The network has closed a deal with Warner Bros. and Abrams’ Bad Robot for a spec script Abrams co-wrote with Josh Reims, handing the drama a pilot commitment with a big penalty attached.

The as of yet untitled show, revolves around a husband and wife team of spies. Before you scream, “Will it star Bradgelina?” I will say that Abrams probably has something much different than a knock off of Mr. & Mrs. Smith up his sleeve… probably.

The show returns Abrams to the world of espionage, which he mined with his ABC series Alias, and MI:III sequel, which was really like one long “really freaking good” episode of Alias.

The new drama marks the first collaboration between Abrams and NBC, where the potential series could join the network’s other WB spy dramedy, Chuck.

Reims worked with Abrams on shows like Felicity and the short lived ABC series they exec produced, What About Brian.

So what do you think of J.J. Abrams and NBC’s potential husband and wife spy drama?

i have to disagree with you, i thought MI 3 was bad, and all im expecting out of this is another alias, which means probably a good 1st and maybe 2nd season, then deteriorating like most of abrams other series, including LOST(which I am a fan of even with the retarded time travel bit). I wish he would just focus on The Dark Tower. I really do not want it to be a series, but if it has to be I hope he at least gives it his full attention.

I agree that I would love to see him working on The Dark Tower, but I'll still watch this, even if the premise isn't that promising.

its like hes try to do a magic trick, im like all hows he gonna make this awful premise interesting to watch, but hell probably do it.
