Paul W.S. Anderson wants to adapt METAL GEAR SOLID Movie

metal_gear_solid_4

According to Resident Evil: Afterlife producer Jeremy Short, Paul W.S. Anderson wants to direct Konami’s Metal Gear Solid for the big screen at Columbia Pictures. To that I say, “Hell No!” I admit I enjoy watching some of Anderson’s films, because I accept them for what they are, but I do not want him to direct Metal Gear Solid! That is a film that needs to be made by a very talented director, who can build a great story, script, and production… Anderson is not that guy. His films are more in the B-movie range, Metal Gear Solid has to have an A+ production team put together.

Shock Till You Drop also got a little update on Paul W.S. Anderson’s video game adaptation of Castlevania at Rogue Pictures. He is still looking into the project, and they are waiting for the script. James Wan was attached to direct the movie, but since that announcement during the summer, we haven’t heard much about his involvement. Castlevania is a film I can see Anderson being involved with, although, I’d rather he not do either of these films.

What do you all think about this little update?

PLEASE GOD NOOOOOOO!!! I would love to see MGS on the big screen but you're 1000% right that it has to be done by someone who has the ability to undertake such a task and honestly there are probably only a handful of directors who could do it. I would hope that Hideo Kojima is intimately involved as well or a co director. I honestly felt sick to my stomach after the horrible job they did with MAX PAYNE so I would rather they don't make an MGS movie if they won't do it right.

NO NO NO NO NO! I hate the what he did to the Resident Evil series. I agree with what Venkman said. It needs to be done by a director that can do more than crap b-movies.

Making MGS into a movie is a bad enough idea as is (because honestly, do you think anyone is going to do it justice? I'm not saying there isn't someone out there that COULD, just that if a movie ends up being made it's more than likely going to be done by someone who will completely disgrace Kojima's work. Or maybe I've just been burnt one too many times by video game movies, but seriously…who has high hopes for this?), but if it HAS to be made this man should come nowhere near it. Granted, I don't have any good suggestions myself, but I'm still certain giving Anderson a movie with this integral (and complex) a plot would be a disaster of epic proportions.

All of this is most likely irrelevant though, because like BenjiMang pointed out I'm sure Kojima wouldn't let someone lacking the skill to undertake such a role anywhere near his franchise.

I agree that Anderson shouldn't direct a possible MGS movie or Castlevania. Even though I do like the RE movies because they are different from the games. **Rant**I don't want to pay to see a video game movie that is 2 hours of what took me 6 hours to do. I would be frustrated that they make it look so easy to get through it all in 2 hours and that the only difference is they are actors and not voice actors and animation.**Rant Over**

But I do have a director suggestion for MGS the movie, Paul Greengrass. He directed Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum, and his new movie Green Zone is looking really good right now. And for Castlevania I suggest Guillermo Del Toro as the director.

Paul Anderson directing MGS no way I don’t think the producers won’t let him direct the movie he made the Resident Evil movies and that Mortal Kombat movie, but there other VG movies coming including Tekken and that lacked KOF movie also Prince Of Persia and the Silent Hill movie sequel will be set to film in 2010.
    Thank You.

I like Anderson's earlier work (Event Horizon is classic) particularly his first film Mortal Kombat. I think that is the most faithful adaption of a video game. It was such a fun movie; in fact I re-watched it the other day and was very much entertained by it. Let's not talk about the sequel though.
