Zach Galifianakis sat on a wall, Zach Galifianakis had a great fall. The guy truly has! After the surprise summer hit The Hangover brought in $461 million at the box-office, Hollywood execs have finally started to take notice of the brilliant stand-up comedian. Now he’s attached to several high-profile projects, and you can currently watch him star opposite Jason Schwartzman in HBO’s Bored To Death, which has been renewed for a second season.

Now Galifianakis is in talks to voice Humpty Dumpty in the Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots, being written by Tom Wheeler. The film will serve as a prequel, with Salma Hayek voicing Kitty, and Antonio Banderes returning to voice the feline assassin. The story will cover the events leading up to Puss In Boots’ first meeting with Shrek & Co. in the second film.

Shrek the Third co-director and co-writer Chris Miller wrote an earlier draft of the Puss in Boots screenplay and will direct the DreamWorks Animation movie.

The Puss spinoff won’t hit theaters until Nov. 4, 2011, but you can catch the deadly feline starring in the fourth installment of Shrek, Shrek Forever After when it opens May 21st, 2010.

Galifianakis meanwhile, recently joined the casts of the Jay Roach-directed comedy Dinner for Schmucks, opposite Steve Carrel and Paul Rudd; Todd Phillips buddy comedy Due Date, opposite Robert Downey Jr.; the Ryan Fleck-Anna Boden-directed drama It’s Kind of a Funny Story; and a sequel to The Hangover, prepping for a summer 2011 release. But he will next be seen in the George Clooney starrer Up In The Air, and in the Michael Cera starrer Youth in Revolt.

Is it weird that I can already imagine Galifianakis’ take on Humpty Dumpty??? It may be weirder that I’m laughing at the sheer thought. If he does get the part… do you think they’ll give Humpty Dumpty a beard?
