From the looks of it David Cronenberg is going to end up directing a political thriller staring Denzel Washington. The film is called 'The Matarese Circle' and it is based on a navel by Robert Ludlum. If for some reason you don't know who Cronenberg is he has directed films such as 'A History of Violence' and 'Eastern Promises' so you know this guy knows how to direct a film. Variety reports:
Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, book revolves around two men - one American, one Soviet - who must cooperate in order to foil a sinister plot to topple the world's governments.
Writing partners Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("3:10 to Yuma") penned the adaptation.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing alongside Nick Wechsler and Jeffrey Weiner.
The description of the book sounds much more exciting:
Only two rival spies--and one mysterious woman--can stop them: Scofield, CIA, and Talaniekov, KGB. They share a genius for espionage--and a life of terror and explosive violence. Sworn enemies, they have vowed to terminate each other--yet now they must become allies. Because only they possess the brutal skills and ice-cold nerves vital to destroy an international circle of killers, the Matarese.
Now that sounds like it could be a very good movie. Cronenberg is bound to make another incredible film.
