Johnny Depp picks up 'Hand of Dante'

by Joey Paur

Johnny Depps production company Infinitum Nilhil has picked up the rights to a novel by Nick Tosches called 'In the Hand of Dante'. This novel will be developed as a potential star vehicle for Depp to drive. As you know Depp has recently signed onto a few films for Disney such as 'Alice in Wonderland', 'The Lone Ranger', and another Pirates movie. It's good to know Depp will still take the time to do his own passion projects through his production company that is becoming more ambitious. Variety reports:

Book revolves around Dante's masterwork "The Divine Comedy," and tells parallel storylines involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete the work, and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript. Depp would play Tosches. The novel was published in 2002.

I have no idea what kind of movie this will end up being, it sounds interesting, but it is good to know that Depp will be making other movies outside of Disney and Tim Burton since is who has has been most recently working with.
