DiCaprio and Paramount play Atari

by Joey Paur

Venkman here - This is an interesting pitch that was picked up by Paramount Pictures. The movie is called 'Atari' and Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star. The movie will be based on Nolan Bushnell. If you don't know who that is you are not a Video Game geek. If you do know who he is then you know he is the one that started it all, he is the guy that Helped create Pong and founded Atari. He was forced out of Atari before the 2600 home entertainment console became successful. After that Bushnell started a new company called Chuck E. Cheese. Here are the details:

Written by Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman, project is a biopic about entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell, the creator of Atari and one of the founding fathers of the vidgame industry.

DiCaprio will produce via his Appian Way shingle.

Although Bushnell's life rights had long been pursued by various suitors, Hecker and Craig Sherman convinced the gaming pioneer that they could do his unique story justice. Bushnell and Ted Dabney founded Atari Inc. in 1972 and were instrumental in bringing arcade games, home vidgame consoles and home computers to the masses. Among the company's contributions was PONG and the Atari 2600.

It'll be an interesting movie to see for this history aspect. This all was going on during a time when people were creating and building computers and stuff in their garages. Now they are huge corporations. I'm just glad they aren't going to make movie based on the video game pong.
