'New Moon' casting: Dakota Fanning offered role of Jane

Now that the Twilight sequel 'New Moon' is on fast track development we are going to start seeing new cast members brought in to fill up new roles. Word got out today that Summit offered Dakota Fanning the role of Jane opposite Robert Patterson in the movie, and she didn't even have to audition for it. Source reveals to E!"They just offered it to her outright, and now they're in negotiations. They've been going back and forth." The character Jane is a member of Italy's Volturi, the most deadly group of vampires in the series Stephanie Myers has developed. Jane is described as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face...[and] crimson irises." While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix "are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her," the casting notice reads.

So it is very possible that we will get to see Dakota Fanning sporting vampire Fangs. Apparently Fanning turns 15 years old next month if you can believe that. I guess fans of the book are all for Fanning to play Jane. A online petition was set up by a fan asking Summit Entertainment to cast her because she would be perfect for the role. I have not read the books so I wouldn't know, but that of you that do know, what are your thoughts?
