McG Will Direct '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo'

by Joey Paur

Well Disney went out and got itself a McG to direct a big budget family film entitled '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo'. The film has been put on the fast track and Disney hopes to make the film this year. The script was written by Bill Marsilli who also wrote the film 'Deja Vu'. and it is an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. Since this is an origin story I assume they have taken the characters created by Jules Verne and developed a new story. As you know McG recently directed 'Terminator Salvation', this looks like it will be his next project. Variety Reports:

The 1954 original "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney, who famously bet his studio on a movie best remembered for the giant squid scene. It became the second-highest grossing film that year and won three Oscars. The film has also been the basis for various rides at the Disney theme park over the years.

I really don't care that McG is directing this film. As much as I love the story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, its not like it has a fanboy following that will get pissed off if he screws it up like Terminator.
