Here's a weird turn of events for Spyglass' The Tourist, the English-language remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer. Let me break it down in the most cut and dry, yet confusing way possible:
-Tom Cruise left The Tourist, was replaced by Sam Worthington(Terminator: Salvation/Avatrar).
-Tom Cruise left Salt, was replaced by Angelina Jolie.
-Brad Pitt left Jennifer Aniston, replaced her with Angelina Jolie.
-Charlize Theron has left The Tourist. Who may replace her? Angelina Jolie!!!
-Director Bharat Nalluri(Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) has also opted out of The Tourist as of last week. Who will replace? Ange--well that part I don't know.
Neither Spyglass nor the director or actresses' reps could immediately be reached for comment. Producers may need to act quickly on a director, if they plan to stay on track with their planned 2010 production.
The Tourist centers on an American tourist who, on behalf of Interpol, goes undercover to entrap a former lover who's a suspected global criminal. It follows in the long tradition of innocents caught up in shady activities abroad that dates back to Hitchcock ("The Man Who Knew Too Much"), Polanski ("Frantic") and beyond, and a theme that also has contemporary echoes with "Taken" this past year.
RiskyBiz reports that Jolie is in talks to take on the title role which Theron has been attached to from the beginning. The role would find her playing equal parts seductress and action hero. The producers are eyeing many female A-Listers, but Jolie has no imminent movie plans fresh off of wrapping on Salt.
This film has had more confusing relationship changes than an episode of Degrassi! What do you think of Angelina Jolie possibly replacing Charlize Theron in The Tourist?
