Well, it's no shock to me that we are going to see another Saw movie and that it will be in 3D. It was inevitable. Hell, they were planning on it two years ago! This probably won't be the last 3D Saw movie we see either. At the annual Saw press day, producer Mark Berg was on hand to talk about the 3D process for their next installment in the franchise SAW VII, which is being directed by David Hackl. Hackl made Saw V, which was by far the worst of the bunch.

Saw, just by the way it's shot, lends itself to being a 3-D movie. We saw a test that somebody did, a minute of Saw transferred from 2-D to 3-D and it looked great. We're not going to transfer VII, but we'll actually shoot it in 3-D. We want to be able to build the sets in a way that takes advantage of depth. We're going to design traps to come out at you. The pendulum trap that opened the last movie would have been great in 3-D. There's a lot of the movie we're planning through the victims eyes, seeing stuff as it comes toward them. But I think the audience wants those moments where the weapon comes into the audience.

The co-writer of the film, Marcus Dunstan seems pretty excited about the jump to 3D.

It adds a whole new layer of discipline and criteria to creating these moments. We've had a very flat surface to try to get a reaction out of you. Now, we get to push out a bit and envelop the viewer, still maintaining the patterns that have worked and been successful, but also to raise it up a notch.

The other co-writer of the film, Patrick Melton talks about how this will be an anti-3D movie, even though it sounds like it will be very much a gimmicky 3D movie.

When you say you're doing 3-D, everybody thinks you have to go out and show the widest vistas and the most majestic landscapes, but in a way, when we go to 3-D on the Saw films, it's like an anti-3-D movie. We're now in a box, and it's going to make the house of horrors come to life even more. Now we have a lead character and you're going to be inside this place with him and when things come out at him, they'll also come out at you.

I would have to say that an anti-3D movie would be a movie NOT shot in 3D. I don't know, I haven't seen any of these 3D horror films that have been released. The 3D horror aspect wont get me to go to the movie, what gets me to go to the films is weather the story is good and interesting.

What do you think of them brining the SAW franchise into the third demension?
