Across the Universe star Jim Sturgess will be joining Kirsten Dunst in Juan Diego Solanas‘ sci-fi romance Upside Down.
The picture in development at Onyx films and Studio 37. Dunst has been in talks to star for several months, and Sturgess will play the male lead, beating out Emile Hirsch who was reportedly negotiating for the role.
Upside Down is a ground breaking high-concept fantasy that takes place in an alternate reality, where two worlds -- one above, one below -- face each other. The two worlds' cities, forests, and oceans have their own inverted gravity. Although they are only an arm’s length away, the worlds are completely unreachable and untouchable from each other.
Here is the synopsis:
Adam(Sturgess) is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary universe. He lives humbly trying to make ends meet, but his romantic spirit holds on to the memory of a girl he met once upon a time from another world, an inverted affluent world with its own gravity, directly above but beyond reach… a girl named Eve(Dunst). Their childhood flirtation becomes an impossible love. But when he catches a glimpse of grown--up Eve on television, nothing will get in the way of getting her back… Not even the law or science!
That's such an amazing/heartbreaking concept! It's hard enough to meet girls, how dare you science...! That's the most epic cock block I've ever heard of. I'm curious to see how practical they go with the sets and human interactions. But put good money on this being a visually stunning and mind bending film.
Kirsten Dunst will may have another upside-down kissing scene to add to her list(provided the film has a happy ending), along with her iconic and much spoofed scene in Spider-Man. I absolutely love the idea of Sturgess in this role. I think he has enough emotional weight to carry such a high-concept plot.
For a little insight into Solanas’ stylistic forte, here is his short film The Man Without a Head. Like Upside Down, it's a romantic story with a physically hindering twist.
So what do you think of Sturgess and Dinst starring in Solanas' sci-fi romance Upside Down?
