DreamWorks Gets the rights to WICKED, not that Wicked

Movie DreamWorks by Joey Paur

wicked

When people hear the title Wicked, they tend to associate it with the hit Broadway musical. What DreamWorks has acquired is not THAT Wicked. The have the right to a young adult book series of the same name.

The books were written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie, and the five-book series centers on a young woman who learns she is a descendant of a powerful coven of witches. Complications arise when she falls in love with a boy who turns out to be a member of a rival coven.

So it's like Romeo & Juliet but with witches, wizards and sorcerers? I'm sure they are also looking to capitalize off of the Twilight crowd with this one.

Brothers Aaron and Matthew Benay have signed on to write the adaptation based on their own pitch. They recently wrote the screenplay for the live-action Pixar film, 1906, which Brad Bird is directing.

I've never read the books, and it doesn't sound that interesting at all. But what are your thoughts on it? Maybe if you've read the book(s), you could shed some light on it. But maybe it is one of those books you don't want to confess that you've read.
