Will DiCaprio and Maguire star in a Remake of THE THIRD MAN?

According to a "solid rumor" CHUD received, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire might end up starring in a remake of the the 1949 Carol reed film, The Third Man. As you may or may not know, the two actors have been friends since they were young actors, so it was only a matter of time before they made another movie together.

The screenwriter from Eastern Promises, Steven Knight, is writing the screenplay for the film. This makes the film a pretty solid package. So far, everyone involved is very good at what they do. Canal Plus is taking this package deal and putting it up for bid in Hollywood. With a line-up like this, I'm sure someone will pick it up really fast, and that there will be a heated bidding war.

If you have not seen the original, it stars Orson Welles and Joseph Cotten, and the story follows an out of work pulp fiction novelist, Holly Martins, who arrives in a post war Vienna divided into sectors by the victorious allies, and where a shortage of supplies has lead to a flourishing black market. He arrives at the invitation of an ex-school friend, Harry Lime, who has offered him a job, only to discover that Lime has recently died in a peculiar traffic accident. From talking to Lime's friends and associates, Martins soon notices that some of the stories are inconsistent, and determines to discover what really happened to Harry Lime.

There is no word yet on what actor will play who, but chances are DiCaprio will play Harry Lime who was played by Welles in the original. There is also no information on if the film will take place in a modern day setting or the World War II setting.

If you haven't seen The Third Man yet you should check it out when you get the chance. It's a good movie.
